Happy Thanksgiving week, friends! While I’m mentally preparing myself for the food coma ahead (or, let’s be honest – I’ve been in a food coma since arriving in Louisiana on Monday), I’m doing a little deal-loving happy dance over here because the Black Friday sales just seem to hit earlier and earlier every year. And I, for one, am certainly not mad at it. Just shop the sales, eat the bird, and spend a little time with family and friends instead of focusing on that old school Black Friday dash.
And today I’m kicking things off with some tried and true favorites from the Shopbop sale. This is the Black Friday sale I look forward to every year. For the second year in a row, I’ve used the sale to stock up on a few cold weather essentials for our upcoming trip to Jackson Hole. (If you’ve got a cold weather trip coming up, I can’t recommend these Hunter boots, boot socks, shearling inserts, and chunky scarf more.)
It’s a Buy More, Save More sale, so the more you spend, the bigger the percentage off. Just use code MORE18 at checkout. Scroll through to see more of my favorites that are on sale and some brand new goodies that should be arriving to my door any minute now. The anticipation, y’all. Happy shopping, friends!
It’s a crazy, crazy thought, but it hit me yesterday while I was going around the house opening windows to let in some spring breeze: summertime is right around the corner. After the winter (well, SoCal winter) that just wouldn’t end, I’m looking forward to warmer days ahead. And with the warmer days comes more time outside – Is your skincare routine ready?
We all know by now that we should be wearing SPF every single day, but how many of us can say that we actually do it? Obviously, I would always remember the sunscreen when headed to the beach or a pool, but how many times have I made it to an outdoor brunch, had to sit in the sun, and thought, well, here goes nothing? And I’ve been more than guilty of taking the pup for long walks without thinking about sunscreen. It really was something that had to become a normal, everyday part of my morning routine, and luckily these days, the SPF options are so good.
My everyday makeup routine includes a couple of items with SPF (still using and loving numbers three and five from this list), but in the name of saving face (and trying anything possible to keep my skin looking young-ish), I’m all about adding a little more protection. So I thought I’d share a few of my favorite everyday SPF products that I use on my face.
Meaningful Beauty Environmental Protecting Moisturizer SPF 30 – I recently scored this one from Cindy Crawford’s line, and if it’s good enough for Cindy, it’s good enough for me. It’s a medium-ish consistency (not too thick, not too thin) that disappears easily into skin and doesn’t make me oily. My one and only little complaint about this one is that I don’t love the smell at first, but it quickly goes away.
Korres Suncare Nourishing Fluid Veil SPF 30– I’ve been using and loving a cleanser from Korres for a few weeks now, so when I saw their suncare, I figured it was worth a try. This one is definitely a thinner consistency but still blends in easily and doesn’t cause makeup to flake. (Anyone else have that problem with some moisturizers and sunscreens? My pet peeve.)
Julep No Excuses Invisible Sunscreen Gel– I think if I were going to buy just one product, this one would be it. I’ve used this product since discovering it at a Julep event last year and have reordered it a few times. The gel is cooling and completely grease-free. I keep this one in my makeup bag at all times and think the name of this one pretty much sums it up – there really are no excuses not to wear your sunscreen.
Colorescience Total Eye 3-in-1 Renewal SPF 35 – If you saw this post, then you know that I’m obsessed with all things for the under eye area, so why not add a little extra SPF into the mix? This one is tinted so it goes on like an under eye concealer, and a little tiny bit goes a long way. I’ve been using it for a couple of months now (and actually just love it as a concealer) and will be really happy to have it for beach days ahead.
Supergoop Setting Mist SPF 50 – When it comes to suncare, Supergoop definitely makes some of my favorite products. This SPF 50 oil is my favorite body sunscreen, and this one with a built-in lip saver is pretty great to have on hand. I also love their CC Cream for a “no makeup” sort of makeup on those lazy summer days, but by far, I think the most genius product is their Setting Mist with SPF 50. It’s so great for those days when you want to reapply SPF, but you don’t really want to rub sunscreen all over your makeup. This one is a cool, refreshing mist that doesn’t make me oily and keeps me covered with SPF 50, and the mini versions are great for keeping in your purse, beach bag or car. So, so smart.
Clearly taking a SHARP left turn from yesterday’s snowy post, today I’ve got nothing but sunny weather and vacay vibes on the brain. Blame it on the springy temps we’ve had around here lately or the upcoming trips I have planned to Palm Springs and Cabo on the horizon, but my online shopping cart is currently filled with easy dresses, airy coverups, and the wedge sandals I know I’ll be wearing throughout the summer.
I first started this post thinking I wanted to create a collage of all the things I’m loving for a tropical vacation, but then it turned into four ready-to-go looks (top to bottom columns) will all the packable essentials for a long weekend getaway. And now I’m convinced that it’s just meant to be for one of my upcoming trips, no? I know it’s technically still January, but let the resort dreaming begin.
It’s been a looong while since I shared any house updates from our home remodel project (a few photos of the kitchen back here, and random snaps around the house here), but if you watched my Instagram stories yesterday, then you know that getting this house decorated and done is pretty much the only thing on my mind these days. (Why else would I wake up and get on Target.com at 6:30 am yesterday?)
The backyard jacuzzi is finally done and getting filled with water this week which means we’re finally done with any and all construction around here (Hallelujah!). And now the really fun part begins because every single room of the house is SO CLOSE to done. We just need a few finishing touches here and there and a few things hung on the walls.
The first room on my list to finish is definitely our master bedroom, and that’s probably because it’s pretty much my favorite room of the house. You may remember WAY back here when I did a little post on our guest bedroom, pre-remodel, and our master bedroom looked something like this. Well that was all 100 years ago it seems, before we replaced every wall, ceiling, window and door in those rooms.
Anywho, I loved the grey and blush color palette of the guest room so much, that I decided to switch things around and make it the theme for the master. I’m now obsessed with our room, and inspired by yesterday’s pink bench purchase, I thought I’d put together a few more things I’m loving to help put the finishing touches on my favorite room of the house. (And although sheepskin slippers aren’t really considered home decor, mine tend to live on the side of my bed, so they’re pretty much part of the room.)
So excited to show you guys the finished room in just a couple of weeks!
Last week I had one of those lots-of-shopping kind of weeks. I’ve got a few deadlines and fun fall projects coming up and generally just had a “let’s procrastinate everything by online shopping” kind of ‘tude going on. Anybody feel me on one of those days? Anybody wanna just say screw it and have one of those days today? (JK, Eric – JK!)
So I figured I’d give a couple of sweaters a whirl, but seeing as it’s currently 8,000 degrees everyday, I figured I’d poke around the BP. section a little more. And then things went really off the rails because y’all, there are so many cute things right now. The pearl-embellished mules at number 10 may be my favorite find, and bonus – they’re just as comfy as they are cute.
The adorable mules at number two come in eight, yes eight, different leather and suede colors, and I’m thinking I may need them in the red suede too. (Red is the color of the season, after all.) The swing dress at number six is as soft as your favorite PJ’s, and the step-hem skinnies (#14) are so on trend. Annnnd because I couldn’t decide on just fourteen faves, I’m linking a few more below.
So whaddaya say – play hooky and call it a shopping day?
Well it’s been a few weeks in the making, but today I’m finally sharing our Palm Springs bedroom and I’m definitely playing favorites with this one. While she’s my favorite room now, it was definitely my least favorite for a while and was a real challenge to pull together because the space is so large. The master bedroom, like the living room, started out with the prettiest pieces from Article. Y’all, I’m telling you – if you’re into mid-century modern pieces for your home, you can find something (or everything) for every room on Article.
The bed was my first priority, and I originally loved this one with a padded headboard. Buuuut, I’m indecisive and couldn’t commit to the grey (or any color for that matter) headboard and ended up going with this similar spindle bed. I love that it’s simple and classic with clean lines. (Side note – we ordered this king size mattress for right around $400, and I’m OBSESSED with it. I want to get rid of the more expensive mattress we have in Huntington Beach and replace it with one of these.)
Once the bed was picked out, the dresser, side tables, and accent bench just made sense. Article. doesn’t have a ton of bedroom furniture options, but for me it just made things easier to pick out. Once we got the main furniture in place, we realized just how huge the space is. I knew that I wanted to create a little seating area, but figuring out how was a bit tricky because the room has a full glass wall with sliding glass doors.
We were lucky enough to buy the sofa and big, comfy chair secondhand from a family friend, and I LOVE both pieces. The chair was originally in the living room (and made its way back there a couple of times) while the sofa got shuffled ALL around the master bedroom. I just couldn’t figure out where it should go until I realized that we didn’t need or use the glass sliding doors in this room. In fact the only time they had ever been opened was to move furniture or rugs in and out.
And speaking of rugs…yikes. The current rug is probably my favorite rug that we own, but it’s also the third one that I bought for this room. You want to know what’s a smidge annoying? Getting a rug home, realizing you hate it, and lugging that thing back to the store. I bought and returned one rug before buying a second one that couldn’t be returned. Big mistake – I HATED that thing. So a couple of weeks later I finally bit the bullet, bought another rug, and threw the second one into the outside casita, a perfectly fine spot for it. And y’all, I love this big cushy cream rug. (And so does Weeze girl.)
And then there’s the bedding and pillows. Similar to the rug, this is the third round of bedding that I tried out. (I told you, I’m indecisive.) And what do you know, I end up with a solid cream rug and ivory bedding. #Neutrals4Life I found this wall art online and thought it’d be the perfect way to tie in the bright chair and add in a little more color, and once it was hung, it made choosing a few pillows so much easier. (I brought home a TON of pillows, played around with them, and returned what I didn’t need. There were LOTS of returning trips with this space.)
And then it was just about the finishing touches: an accent table, a floor lamp, a faux plant that I love, and little decorative accessories and books. I’m really loving the neutral palette of this room with some bold pops of color, and I hate to say it, but I kind of love this room more than our master bedroom at home. Sooo, now that one’s a work in progress that I’ll be sharing here soon.
A few weeks ago, I had the super sweet opportunity to meet Reese Witherspoon and see a screening of her new movie Home Again. I know, total pinch me moment. My Southern self was super stoked and had all these things I wanted to say, ask, tell, shout…basically ALL of the things. But I got my turn to say hello and barely mumbled something about loving the movie before posing for a round of photos looking beyond awkward. You know, you win some, you look like a turd in some. (The movie is actually super cute though, and you should definitely grab your girls and go see it.)
Anywho, before said meet-and-greet I realized that I had nothing to wear to meet Reese Witherspoon because, well, obviously, and found myself perusing racks at Nordstrom a couple of hours before I was supposed to be dressed and ready to go. If you’re late to something in LA, you just blame it on the traffic, right?
Since fall fashion is currently upon us, finding something that was heatwave-approved was a bit of a challenge. In the end, I scooped up this little floral dress, actually changed into it in the dressing room, and hit the road with, like, a minute to spare. No big deal, hey, Reese, sorry I’m such a hot mess, loved Sweet Home Alabama! Except I didn’t say any of that #IRL. I did, however, leave with a new favorite dress that I’ve now worn numerous times including this slightly sweaty, overcast day. A floral dress is always a good idea, right?
Good morning, friends! Well, it’s been a couple of months in the making, but today I’m finally giving you guys a little update on things at the Palm Springs house, starting with the main living area. I’m not gonna lie – it took a ton of trial and error, but this space finally feels like home and we LOVE hanging out here. And as for the decorating process, well, here goes.
This whole shebang started out with the couch. As I first mentioned back here, I became obsessed with anything and everything from Article. and took a special liking to so many of their sofas. Originally I was super into this Sven Sofa, but Eric really preferred this Chester style. Hey, you win some, you allow your husband to win some. And I hate to admit it, but I think he was right. I love that our sofa has one single “benchseat” cushion so no one gets stuck sitting in the cushion crack, and the leather is definitely the type that only gets better with age.
Along with the sofa came the Article. armchairs and coffee table, and I really love the mix of the black leather and beautiful woodwork in the room. In my head, I thought I’d be done with the living room seating at that point, but I really underestimated the size of the room. It’s…huge. And to be honest, more seating is never a bad thing in my book.
While buying a rug for the space (and I seriously heart the rug that we picked), Eric found another set of chairs that he just couldn’t pass up. After a full day of unsuccessfully searching consignment shops for a dining table, he sat in one of these swivel chairs and became obsessed. (Legitimately, the salesperson ended up carrying the chair across the store so that Eric could join our rug conversation while swiveling himself around. It was…love at first sit.) Plus our new sales-buddy ended up telling me the secrets of the two best consignment stores in town (two that we of course hadn’t visited yet), so that was a win.
At this point, the room definitely needed a little color, and color we found. We came across these bold green chairs on consignment and LOVE how they brighten the room. (These particular chairs can be pretty steep brand new, but if you find a set that’s used and in good condition, it’s so worth it.) Next up we added a couple of framed wedding photos from Framebridge, some art that we love from Saatchi Art (more on that process later), and a few more decorative accents.
Overall we are loving how the house turned out so far and think it’ll only get better with time as we collect a few more pieces for the walls. The best things in life take a little time, right? And I’ll take any excuse to have to spend more time in this room. (Huge, HUGE thank you to Article., Framebridge, and Saatchi Art for helping to make our vision come alive.) Hope everyone is having a great week!
St. Patty’s Day has come and gone (without a drop of green beer for me, might I add), but I’m still over here loving on all things green. Admittedly it’s a little out of the ordinary for me and my closet is seriously lacking in the emerald department, but this spring I just can’t help myself. There are so many pretty, pretty green shoes, handbags, and accessories everywhere I look. And my favorite way to style them? As a standout piece with an all (or mostly) white look.
Imagine the dress at number eight paired with numbers three and six. (That ark clutch at number six is probably on every blog you browse these days, but why not skip the basic brown and go for a head-turning color? She’s a beauty.) Or, perhaps a little one, seven, thirteen, fourteen combo. (Insert heart-eyes emoji.) Anyone still with me here? Because you seriously can’t go wrong with pops of green on a clean, white slate this spring. Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Well, the holiday season is upon us, folks (Can anyone actually believe that Thanksgiving is THIS week?), and it’s time to start making those lists and checking them twice. As a makeup and skincare lover, I’ve always loved giving (and receiving!) something shiny and new from the beauty department, and during the holidays, the beauty kits and sets are my absolute favorites. I seriously can’t even help myself. I don’t know if it’s the fun packaging, the feeling that you’re getting a steal, or just a plain old obsession, but every year I grab a couple of holiday beauty gifts to give away…AND maybe one or two for myself.
This year, I’m smitten with the #GiftableBeauty options from Dermstore and FINALLY got my hands on a couple of the coveted Harry Josh Pro Tools wonder hair tools. (Check out the blowout kit here, the Holiday Waves Kit here, and the entire drool-worthy collection here.) So far, I think the hype around these tools is totally deserved, and I’m now obsessed. The blow dryer is seriously powerful and has an ION function that cuts drying time in half. The 2-in-1 curling iron has a removable clip so that you can also use it as a wand – so good for switching things up. I can’t recommend either of these enough, and there’s something about the Harry Josh gift sets that just feel so luxe. But if “luxe” isn’t exactly the price range that you’re going for, Dermstore has so many affordable options as well. I’m a sucker for a good nude lipgloss and am loving this little 3-piece set from bareMinerals. There are also a ton of gifts under $50 that are sure to please the gals in your life, but don’t take my word for it – head over to Dermstore now to uncover wonder for everyone on your list.
