With more than a couple new pairs of jeans already in my arsenal for spring (see here and here), I’m turning my attention to all of the other denim things out there that I’m pretty sure my wardrobe, well, needs.  During the spring (and not quite spring) months when I admittedly jump the gun on the warm weather wear, I live in my denim jacket.  (I currently have the version at number five, and it’s a keeper.)  It’s the perfect piece to throw on over a little dress, with white denim, or with a fun pair of shorts, and this year, I’m loving the oversized “trucker” versions that are popping up everywhere.  I’ve shared number six above before (here and here) because I’m pretty obsessed and had just about decided to pull the trigger, but now I’m thinking, how’s a girl to choose?  Similarly, a denim dress is something that I think every closet needs, and the easy version at number nine above is under $50.  This year in lieu of sandals and wedges, I’ll be pairing mine with another new obsession – sneakers.  Anyone else caught the denim shopping bug hard this season?

Last week I shared a few of my favorite budget basics (along with a few favorite spring sneakers), and today, I’m adding in a couple more.  I’ve been on a serious denim-buying kick these days, but I’ve found SO many affordable, flattering pairs lately that I’m like, why stop?  I love the fun distressing on this pair, and they fit like a glove.  They’re under $100, but I’ve actually found them on sale right over here.  The sneakers could not be more comfortable and fun for Spring, and if you haven’t scooped up this $17 tee yet, you’re missing out, babes.  (I actually just picked up a second because it’s such a favorite.)  Add in a cozy cardigan and the bag that always gets 1,000 compliments, and it’s the perfect look for running around town getting things done.  We’ve got a little over a month left in the rental house, so that means things need to kick into overdrive at our casa.  (The four to five days of predicted rain this week is throwing a little wrench into the plans…)  But the day moves on and here’s hoping everyone has an amazing week ahead.

Today marks one whole month since we packed up our entire house and moved to a rental house while we undergo a remodel.  One whole month of going without my entire closet because everything is wrapped up tightly in plastic to keep the construction dust out.  Sure, I’ve snuck back in a couple of times to grab this piece or that, but for the most part, I’ve been living in the few pieces that I packed…and a few that I’ve recently purchased.

I’ll admit that I’ve done a tiny bit of shopping over the last couple of weeks, but not nearly as much as I thought I might feel like I needed to.  (And to be fair, a new season is just around the corner that I’d probably be shopping for anyway.)  And the reason is simple.  Lately I’ve been sticking with easy budget basics that I can wear over and over again with different pieces from my (temporary) closet.  Easy tees like the one above (only $17 and SO soft) and this $25 striped version (that I scooped up in both colors) are great for layering, mixing and matching.  Distressed denim is a no-brainer for everyday-wear, and this pair is so comfortable and under $75.  (In fact, every piece in the look above is under $100.)

And then there are the sneakers.  To say that I’m obsessed with these would definitely be an understatement.  When I first bought them, I was a little undecided whether they were actually going to get much use, but I was so wrong.  Y’all, I wear the crap out of these.  They are so very comfy and are definitely one of my new favorite denim companions.  And to be honest, they make me feel like my sweats are a little more…um, grocery store acceptable.  I love these so much, that I’ve gone a little sneaker mad lately and will be sharing 20 of my favorites on the blog tomorrow.  So stay tuned for that.  And stay tuned for more budget basics coming your way that are great for now and into Spring.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

Just another Friday, hanging out here on the blog in my finest threads.  To be honest guys, these days you can mostly find me in jeans or leggings (heavy on the workout leggings this week) and sneakers or loafers, but if there’s one time besides the holidays to get all gussied up and put your best dress forward, it’s Valentine’s Day, obviously!  No one does “dressed to the nines” quite like Parker, so when I spotted this red number on their site recently, I was like YESSSSS.  This dress just screams Valentine’s (or Galentine’s!) Day to me, and who doesn’t want a little Lady in Red moment?  (Insert red dress emoji here – it’s one of my most used emojis to be honest.)  If you’ve got a little something fancy in your near future, I can’t recommend this dress (or anything Parker, really) enough.  And if there are no fancy pants plans in your future?  Then obviously you need to make some!  Hope everyone has an amazing weekend ahead!

On My Radar: Spring Things

Fashion blogger Nikki Minton of My Style Diaries shares a sneak peek into new Spring fashions. 1. Striped Linen Shift Dress  2. Perforated Platform Wedge  3. Reversible Bomber Jacket  4. Y’all, last weekend we had our first taste of Spring around here, and it was delicious.  We spent the entire day on Sunday Lounging (with a capital L) outside on our back patio, just watching the boats pass by.  I’m telling you guys, this whole “temporary rental home”  while we remodel thing could really become a permanent in my book.  (More on what in the world I’m talking about here.)  Just don’t tell Eric.  It was 75 degrees and beautiful, so I took full advantage and used the day to break in a new favorite pair of denim shorts which ultimately just got me thinking about ALL OF THE SPRING THINGS that I can’t wait to wear.  Shorts!  Sandals!  Dresses!  And denim jackets with just about everything.  (Spring evenings are always a little chilly around here.)  I seriously need that little striped dress at number one, have already ordered the wedges at number two, and was so surprised at the prices of numbers four and eleven.  (And I think you will be too!)  So whether you’re enjoying a little California sunshine or currently surrounded by snow (sorry!), take a peek into Spring, and let me know – what are you guys most looking forward to wearing next season?

Another day, another pair of distressed denim because, well, I’m obsessed.  I’ve had these Levi’s since last summer, and they are seriously a go-to.  I love the high rise and statement distressing, and they’re just plain comfy for all day wear.  Unfortunately these are now sold out in most sizes, with a few sizes left here, here, and here for lucky gals.  (I sized up 2 whole sizes from my normal “jegging” size because there is no stretch in these.)  If your size is gone or perhaps you’re just looking for a little something else, the denim show rolls on and I’m rounding up a few pairs below that are distressed just right.  The best part?  They’re all under $100 because although I think this style is here to stay for a while, there’s nothing wrong with scoring them for a steal.  I’m all about the budget denim lately and also own this pair and this one, with this pair next on my list.  Wear ’em all with heels, mules, or sneakers, and get ready to seriously fall in love.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Motivation Monday

New year, new me, y’all.  This is my year for working out, eating right, drinking way more water, and getting more sleep, yada yada.  But then you help throw a friend’s chicken and waffles birthday dinner on Friday night because his favorite food is fried chicken strips and adding in waffles only seemed natural and you obviously had to bake a Funfetti cake to top it all off.  Naturally.  Add in a couple of very rainy days spent on the couch, and this Monday is feeling a little extra sluggish.

Buuuut, I suppose there’s no better time to get back on track, so I’m kicking things off this Motivation Monday with a green juice and some of the cutest new activewear from lucy.  Nothing like some sweet new sweat duds to get my booty back in motion, and lucy is always my favorite.  This year I’m looking to add in a few new workouts (suggestions welcome!) as well as sticking with my normal routine of walking a couple of miles along the beach path – just as soon as this cuckoo rain lets up and stops flooding our construction site house and ruining the wood floors, but that’s a story for a different day.  For today, I’m just going with this little tidbit of advice and couldn’t help but passing it along:

“Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Spanx Leggings and the Uniform Lately

You guys, I’m here today with some great news for the girl team.  These Spanx leggings that I’ve worn 999 times this fall slash winter (slash who even knows what season we’re in here) are finally back in stock in all sizes (here and here), and I’m telling you, they’re the BEST.  I was so excited to find them that I scooped up a second pair, a move that may seem aggressive to some, but if you’ve tried these then you know.  Also it’s totally acceptable considering these have become a sort of uniform for me lately.  True story, I pretty much only packed these leggings plus a few pairs of workout leggings (these are my favorites) for the initial move into the rental house during our home remodel.  After a couple of weeks, I discovered that I’ve pretty much been accidentally waist-training.  Sooo, it turns out, that whole trend at least partially works.

And onto other, equally exciting news.  Southern California is on the verge of, wait for it, five whole days in a row of rain starting tomorrow.  What?!  Bananas, y’all.  And while I’m usually the ultimate rain-lover of SoCal (it’s not an official title or anything…yet), the rain tends to put a little cramp in that whole remodeling schedule.  Mother Nature takes no prisoners, y’all.  But hey, the rain is coming, and this rain-lover is gonna enjoy it regardless.

And in one more smidgelet of news, it’s that time again.  Time for what, you ask?  Time to hit up The Stylist LA for their annual sample sale.  Sweet Emily will be selling off her gently used sample dresses, and I’ll be selling off pieces from my own closet along with a couple of favorite blogger gals.  And since I went through my closet while packing up to move everything into storage, I’m getting rid of a TON.  (Me and Mother Nature, both getting serious this week.)  I’ve got clothing, shoes, and so many handbags headed to The Stylist LA tomorrow, so don’t miss out!  Details on the sale below – hope to see y’all there!

On My Radar: 13 Things I’m Loving Right Now

Fur-Embellished Sneaker

Why is it when I have the most work to do, I find myself doing the MOST online shopping?  Well, I’m sure that’s not a hard one to figure out: procrastination at its finest, y’all.  But also, part of my job?  Sure, we’ll go with that.  The new arrivals are seriously EVERYWHERE, and so many of them are just staring at me, like, buy me.  So today I’m rounding up 13 pieces that are currently on my radar.  I scooped up these velvet beauties this week, and now I’m like, do I need the leather ones at number six too?  Maybe?  Probably.  The fur-embellished sneakers and patchwork jeans (same brand as these that I wear all the time) are next on my list as well as a pair of metallic sneakers for spring.  Also, loving this big tote for any upcoming travel plans – totes made from this material always have the most comfortable padded straps.  I need new sunglasses like I need a hole in my head, but somehow the perfectly mirrored pair under $20 just gets me every time – add ’em to the collection, hoarder.  So basically the list goes on and on, but hey, that’s fashion, right?  What pieces are you guys looking to add to your wardrobe this month?

Well, well, well, friends, our New Year’s Eve plans have officially been set, and it’s currently looking like 100% chance of snow.  If you’re going to spend your New Year’s countdown in the mountains in a tiny little cabin surrounded by mostly guy friends and gourmet McDonald’s to eat, then it helps if it’s snowing.  I’m just kidding, there’s actually a really bomb Chinese food hole-in-the-wall for dinner.  The McDonald’s is for emergency hunger only.  Anywho, I’ve been taking a little inventory here of all things cozy to pack for the trip, and I’ve decided that every piece above has made the cut.  I mean, fur-lined sneakers that feel like slippers but are totally acceptable outside of the house?  Count me in, friend.  I’ll wear these with skinnies, leggings, and (let’s face it) probably pajamas while keeping cozy in the cold.  And the best part?  They’re under $40, along with a slew of other great boots, sneakers, and slippers at Payless right now.  Annnnd there are a bunch of heel options if you’re looking to get fancy to ring in the new year.  (How GOOD are these mules?)  You know, if getting fancy is your thing.  But nope, not over here.  I’ll be cozied up next to a fire with some of my favorite people.  Hope you guys have a great NYE weekend ahead!
