As I’m sure you’ve seen around the blogosphere and interwebs in general, there have been a TON of sales this week.  I took a pass on Prime Day earlier this week, but there are a couple of sales that are still worth shopping.  The Marc Fisher friends & family sale is still going strong, Old Navy has a bunch of deals to grab, and there’s still a little time to shop my favorite, the Shopbop Fall Sale.

Sale selections are always hit or miss, but Shopbop sales are always my favorite because they include new merchandise as well as things that are already on sale.  It’s a “buy more, save more” sale, so the more you spend, the bigger the sale percentage.  It’s the perfect time to grab that jacket you’ve had your eye on, a new pair of fall jeans, the earrings you can’t stop thinking about.  Whatever IT is, there’s no time like the present to grab IT.  I scored the Misa dress above during a previous sale, and it’s still one of my favorite dresses I own.

So today I’m rounding up some favorites that are still available.  Just enter code FALL20 at checkout to save up to 25%, but hurry – sale ends tomorrow, 10/16 at 11:59 pm.

By now I’m sure lots of us have gotten pretty used to living life in loungewear, and just because we’re allowed to leave the house again, who says we can’t keep the comfies going?  I’m still ALL about the joggers, two-piece sets, and slippers all day, and right now, I can’t get enough sweatshirt dresses.

There are tons of options these days at just about any price point, so I’m rounding up some easy faves below.  But if I had to pick my number one, it’s definitely the taupe version above with some serious sleeves.  It’s under $25, incredibly soft, and just so easy to style for fall.  Wear it with booties, flats, or my usual go-to, sneakers.  (It runs a bit big, so I’d recommend sizing down.)

Here’s hoping everyone has a great week ahead, and long live loungewear, right?

New Fall Favorites from Scoop at Walmart

If you’ve been following along here for a bit, you KNOW I love a good Walmart find.  Over the past couple of years I’ve found and purchased all of our backyard patio furniture (updated version here), a favorite candle, the giant mirror in my office, and tons of clothing goodies at Walmart.

And when it comes to clothing, it doesn’t get any cuter than the Scoop collection.  A few favorite finds include this wrap dress, the cutest summer caftan, an adorable leopard sweater dress, this little holiday number, and ALL the cozy sweaters.  (My favorite sweater is back this year in four colors, soft as ever, and under $30.)

Scoop’s latest collection to drop might just be my favorite so far, so today I’m rounding up a bunch of fall pieces that I snagged.  You seriously can’t go wrong with the sweaters, and a few of the dresses remind me so much of Free People styles for less than half the FP price tag.  (I mean, how much does the snake print dress below remind you of this Free People dress that I wore last season?  I actually prefer the Scoop version though because it’s lined and has a better length.)

Now that I’ve got half of my fall wardrobe figured out, I’ll just be over here waiting for the weather to wear it.  Hope everyone has a great rest of their week!

Love It or Hate It: White Denim

White denim for fall | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki PrendergastWhite denim for fall | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki PrendergastWhite denim for fall | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki PrendergastWhite denim for fall | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast LOFT denim (similar style here);  Amazon the Drop X Kathleen Barnes sweatshirtclutchsimilar heelsGigi Pip hatGorjana necklace

For years now, I’ve had a love / hate relationship with white denim, and by that I mean I pretty much hated it.  I should clarify.  I like white jeans on other people, tons of other people.  I just always had a hard time finding a pair I actually liked on myself, so I gave up.  White skinnies made me feel anything but, and before someone comes at me about body positivity, don’t waste your time.  I dress in things that make me feel good, and if something isn’t working, sometimes you gotta move on, right?

But this summer I stumbled on two pairs of white denim that I’m really digging, and not surprisingly, neither of them are skinny jeans.  I snagged the above pair during a recent LOFT sale because at under $15 (at the time) they were too cheap to pass up.  And what do you know, I actually really love them.  Add a lightweight sweater (love this one) or blouse, and you’re good to go.  Sadly this pair is pretty much sold out minus a couple of sizes, but I found a super similar pair here.

And the second pair (also unsurprisingly) comes in the form of denim shorts.  Y’all, I’ve talked about these shorts before (I own them in 3 washes), but I really, really love them.  I sized up two sizes from my normal jeans size so they’re loose and sit pretty low.  (I love high rise jeans but do NOT like high rise shorts usually.  Is that weird?)  I’ve worn and washed them a hundred times and still love the fit.

While September is just around the corner, it’s still very much summertime in SoCal, and my white denim isn’t going anywhere.  That “white after Labor Day” rule is long gone, and besides, it’s 2020.  Anything goes.  There are no rules.  (And that shall be my mantra all weekend long.)  Happy weekend, friends!

It’s been a bit, but happy Monday, friends!  Is everyone still surviving 2020?  Shutdowns, mask mandates, distance learning…and with the recent additions of back-to-back hurricanes coming, hundreds of wildfires burning, and widespread rolling blackouts and power outages, this year just gets wilder and wilder.  Anyone else want to just decorate the Christmas tree and pretend the holidays are here?

It’s not all bad though.  I really can’t complain about staying home a bunch with the husband and pups, and lately on the weekends, you can find us cruising around on bikes or hanging at the beach instead of hopping around from one obligation to the next.  We see friends, take drives, and have been loving all of the outdoor dining options at restaurants around town.  (Bring on the parking lot dining!)  It’s definitely been a learning time of figuring out OUR own new normal, the things we want to get back to and the things we’ll be leaving in 2020.

And while we’re on the subject of the good, I gotta admit I’m ALL about the stay home style and my growing collection of loungewear.  Graphic tees, matching sets, roomy linen shorts – I’m 100% here for it.  (If you like graphic tees, these are seriously a STEAL, and I can’t recommend these $35 shorts more.)  So today I’m sharing a few snaps of some recent looks, and not surprisingly, there are lots of stay-at-home staples and affordable finds in the mix.  Here’s hoping you find something that makes you smile today, friends!

It’s been a little while since I’ve been this excited about a new dress (and admittedly, I rarely even wear dresses these days), but y’all, this one is so good.  I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it if I saw it online first, but last week I swung by Pacific City for a little lunch takeout from Lemonade (#TreatYoself) and decided to pop into Free People while waiting for my food.

While I definitely haven’t been on the hunt for much “normal” clothes lately (you’ll notice my Nordstrom sale faves are pretty heavy on the PJ’s and loungewear), I just couldn’t resist this little cargo-pocketed dress.  It’s so cute with sandals or wedges, and I’ll probably be pairing it with sneakers (see below) for a little “parking lot dining” with a friend later this week.  (Orange County still isn’t allowing indoor seating at restaurants, so most places have moved all of their tables out into the parking lots and sidewalks so that they can remain open.  And honestly, while I haven’t been out to eat much lately, the parking lot dining sitch with our current perfect weather has been really nice.)

And while I hate to even mention fall fashion at the beginning of August in Southern California, I just think this dress will be so cute paired with suede booties in the fall.  After all, if I’m gonna buy a piece of “normal clothing” right now, it better last a few seasons, right?

Keeping It Casual: A Few Recent Looks

Casual summer style: Scoop tank, Free People shorts, Welden handbag, Jessica Simpson sandals | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Scoop sweater tankFree People shorts (also here);  Welden handbagJessica Simpson sandalssimilar bracelets and rings

While California is still pretty shut down right now, I’ve finally made it past the “everyday sweatpants” phase I was in because, well, the weather got warm.  Full disclosure, you can still find me in workout gear or these Gap sets that I swear by (sweatshirt here and shorts here – both on sale) a TON, but these days I’m mixing in some easy basics and fun accessories to at least pretend like I tried, ya know?

Here are a few casual staples that have been in heavy rotation lately:

The under $10 Walmart t-shirt dress (I bought a medium and had it hemmed an inch or two)

The denim shorts I own in 3 washes

These $20 henley tees that wash and wear SO well

This jumpsuit that feels like PJ’s (bonus – you can try before you buy with Amazon Wardrobe)

These bike shorts and these cross-back tanks (LOVE) for outdoor workouts

What are some pieces you guys are living in these days?

Body Oils, a Holy Grail Fragrance, and a New Nude

Mented polish, Dermalogica body oil, Le Labo Santal 33 | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Mented “Yes We Tan” polishAnkole Living comb, tray, and beaded bracelets (c/o);  Dermalogica body oil (c/o);  Le Labo Santal 33 body oil

Good morning, friends!  Over the past few (hundred) weeks of quarantine and our current halfway-out-of-quarantine situation, I’ve been trying out alllll of the beauty things that I’ve been meaning to get to for months.  While makeup has been admittedly minimal, I’m clearing out the beauty drawers and slathering on all the lotions and potions and trying out this and that.  I discovered that I’m actually REALLY into a daily body oil, found a new favorite holy grail fragrance, and tossed out all of my outdated nail colors to make room for new.  So today I’m sharing a couple of new additions to my morning routine.

Dermalogica phyto replenish body oil – I’ve never really been into body oils, but this one completely changed my mind.  I started using it after pool days in Palm Springs but quickly added it to my everyday morning routine.  It smells amazing, is so moisturizing, and absorbs quickly with no greasy residue.

Le Labo Santal 33 body oil – I recently found and tried a tiny little sample of Le Labo’s Santal 33 fragrance and was instantly hooked, but holy moly the perfume is pricey.  I decided to try out the body oil instead since, you know, I’m a body oil believer now.  It’s less than a third of the price of the perfume, and while the body oil is still a splurge, a little bit will last all day long.  (And most days, I use it in addition to the Dermalogica oil.)

Mented “Yes We Tan” polish – I’m always on the hunt for new nude polishes that I like, so when I discovered this brand last week, I had to give it a shot.  I ordered the pretty “Yes We Tan” shade, and lucky for me, it arrived just in time for my very first post-quarantine mani/pedi.  (YES – I found a salon here that is open for business right now, and it’s one of my local favorites.)  I’ve already done the at-home “paint one hand, only the left hand” test, and the color is so pretty.

Ankole Living accessories – Lastly, how pretty are these Ankole Living vanity accessories?  I’ve been a fan of the brand since snagging this woven clutch a couple of summers ago and love that everything they make is ethically-sourced and just so unique.  I’m loving these little accent pieces and currently have my eye on a stack of these lightweight bangles for summer.

Four Ways I’m Avoiding the Grocery Store This Week

Food delivery during Coronavirus quarantine | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Mackenzie Childs rug (c/o)Daily Harvest frozen meals | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Daily HarvestDaily Harvest Broccoli + Cheeze Bowl | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Anthropologie bowlsThrive Market "Build Your Own" Meat Box | My Style Diaries blogger Nikki Prendergast Thrive Market Meat Box

It’s been around three-ish weeks (I haven’t kept track) of hunkering at home to stop the spread of Coronavirus now, and it looks like we’ll be here for a bit longer.  I know I’m lucky and am not complaining as we’ve filled our time with work, cleaning, walking the pups, catching up on ALL the shows, and taking the occasional drive along the coast.  During the first couple of weeks, I was still running out to the store for our weekly groceries (well, what I could get), but under current local and national guidelines, we’ve decided to skip even the grocery store this week and next.

While that’s admittedly been a bit of a challenge at times, I’ve discovered a few companies delivering healthy, delicious food (and wine!) straight to your door.  (And while Instacart and Amazon Fresh delivery seem like obvious answers, it is just not possible to get available delivery times or even pick-up times at local stores right now in our area.)  So today, I’m sharing a couple of favorites below and sending a big, fat THANK YOU to all the delivery drivers out there helping to keep so many people at home.  We appreciate you!

Daily Harvest – I’ve been wanting to try out Daily Harvest for a while now, so it seemed like a no brainer timeframe to finally pull the trigger.  And I’m so glad that I did.  There are a few plans to choose from, and basically, the more items you choose, the lower the price per item.  You can then choose from a bunch of different smoothies, soups, harvest bowls, oat bowls, chia bowls, bites, lattes, and new flatbreads, and everything arrives frozen.  For the smoothies and lattes, you add a liquid and blend in a blender; for soups, add liquid and heat; harvest bowls, simply heat.  You get the idea.

It’s all super easy, and I’ve loved everything I’ve tried.  Friends have asked if it’s actually filling, and my answer is yes BECAUSE I’ve switched to eating four small meals throughout the day instead of three now.  Also, if I make one of the harvest bowls for lunch, I might add in a handful of lettuce, half an avocado, or some nuts for a little crunch.  Standout favorites so far include the Chai + Coconut Smoothie, Cold Brew + Almond Smoothie, Broccoli + Cheeze Bowl, and the Lentil + Tomato Bolognese Bowl.  Daily Harvest is warning about shipping delays right now, but I’ve gotten both of my shipments on Wednesdays as promised.  (You’ll get a shipment once a week on your designated day unless you skip or pause.)  Use code RE-BTH68YD to save $25 off your first box.

Thrive Market – Thrive Market is another one that I saw advertised ALL over the interwebs, but I never joined because you can’t browse the selection before you pay for a membership.  I still find this VERY annoying (especially right now when I didn’t know if everything would be out of stock), but I decided to join recently because, well, desperate times.  I also mainly joined because I saw that they had frozen meat and seafood to ship.  (Although at the time I didn’t know if it would be in stock – heads up, it is.)

I’m not sure how it usually works, but right now they are offering “Build Your Own” meat or seafood boxes with five different protein options.  Eric loves chicken thighs, so we maxed out on those and then added chicken breasts, shrimp, and a pork roast.  Everything is wild-caught or organically grown and high quality, but it is pricey ($119 for a box) for the portions.  That said, we were very happy to have meat in the freezer and already have big Friday night plans for that pork roast.

Besides the meat and seafood, I also ordered wine and groceries that I thought were all very reasonably priced.  I ordered this red bundle which includes 6 bottles I’ve never tried.  (Right now – why not, right?)  We’ve opened one and really enjoyed it, but you can browse through a pretty big selection.  You can’t buy produce, but I did order soups, pastas and pasta sauces, condiments (from brands like Primal Kitchen), Safe Catch tuna, hand sanitizer, and a few other nonperishable things we needed.

Overall (besides the meat and seafood prices I guess), I’m really pleased with Thrive Market.  As for shipping time, I placed my order on April 3rd and received the meat on the 7th, the wine on the 8th, and the rest of the groceries on the 9th.  (Pretty great in my opinion.)  They’re warning of 2+ week shipping time, but I think it really just depends on where you live.

Sitka Salmon Shares – I tried out Sitka Salmon Shares back in January, and I’m so excited to have another shipment on its way.  If you’re not familiar with Sitka Salmon, it’s really just the coolest buy-in partnership between Alaskan small-boat fishermen and people like you and me.  Buy a “share” to help support fishermen and receive high quality shipments of Alaskan seafood delivered straight to your door.  While I haven’t received my second box yet, I know that the quality will be just as good as the first.  If you’re interested in trying for yourself, use code “MSD” for $25 off any share (except for the Taste of Summer Share).

Total Wine – While we’re limiting alcohol to weekends (which obviously start on Thursday night, am I right?), nobody wanna run out of booze right now.  I ordered wine from Thrive Market (above), but Eric usually prefers a whiskey cocktail to a glass of wine.  Enter, Total Wine.  To me, the wine prices were around $2 to $5 higher than the grocery store, but the liquor prices were pretty comparable.  The whole process is easy peasy – order online, choose a delivery time (ours was next day), pay online, and you’re done.  The delivery fee for us was $10, and don’t forget a generous tip for your driver right now.

If you don’t have a Total Wine near you, I’d do a little research on local liquor stores doing delivery near you.  For wine, you can always order directly from individual wineries (we love Stag’s Leap, and they’re currently offering 40% off a case), or try one of these sites – Firstleaf Wine Club (to try something new) and Wine Access (for nicer wines).

It’s a wild and crazy world out there, but today on the blog I’m keeping things nice and light with the prettiest maxi dress that I was so excited to find for spring.  While I originally bought it for a quarantine-cancelled wine tasting weekend, I have no problem wearing it around the house when the weather warms up a little next week.  (Quarantine, Southern Charm Patricia style.)  It is super comfy and lightweight, comes in a few colors, and is under $30.  (It’s the same brand as these two dresses from last year, so I figured it was a safe bet for me.)

Working on a big roundup post for tomorrow with all the sites and companies that are helping me avoid the grocery store right now, so stay tuned.  Hope everyone has a great rest of their week!
