Well guys, here we go – another home adventure is underway for the Prendergasts. A couple of weeks ago, Eric and I closed escrow and officially became homeowners in Palm Springs. Now I know what you’re thinking. Didn’t these two yahoos JUST rip up and remodel their home in Huntington Beach? Well, yes, and truth be told, we’re still a few weeks out from being completely done with that project. Nothing like jumping head-first to the next, right? (Remember, we’re the couple that closed on our first home during our wedding weekend, just in case we needed a little more excitement.)
So why now? Palm Springs is seriously our happy place, and owning a home there has always been the dream. We just didn’t think that it would happen so quickly and are feeling more than a little blessed over here. Eric has kept an eye on the Palm Springs real estate market for a while now, and when we saw this house, we knew that it was exactly what we had in mind.
The home has a really cool history and used to belong to Zsa Zsa Gabor back in the day. While that little fact didn’t sway our buying decision, it kind of makes you wonder what these walls have seen. The house is situated in the hills and feels very private and secluded, but it’s only minutes from downtown Palm Springs. Really, once we found this little hill-top “neighborhood”, it was the only area we could think about.
The house has really been kept in great shape over the years, and there aren’t many things that we want to change about it. (And I’m not gonna lie, the fact that we’re not diving back into a construction project makes me pretty happy.) Eventually, we’d like to redo the kitchen and add a half bathroom to the main house as well as possibly adding on a second bedroom to the outside casita, but for now, we’re focusing on furnishing, decorating, and enjoying it.
And then there was that: furnishing an entire new home. For our home in Huntington Beach, we went really traditional which is our style, but for Palm Springs, we definitely wanted to go with the bones of the house and keep things mid-century modern. And for that aesthetic, we can’t get enough of anything and everything from Article. Holy moly, y’all, they have the prettiest pieces.
I first became obsessed with their selection of sofas and especially loved this blue velvet pretty. We eventually decided on this leather couch though, and I then picked out 475 other pieces I needed from Article. I can’t wait to show you guys the finished rooms, but for now, here are a few favorite pieces from Article and a bit of inspiration for the mid-century modern home.
