Well, folks, we’ve reached that time of year.  Chances are every blogger you follow is currently talking “fall transition pieces” or “sweater weather” or “the booties you need” right now, and truthfully, it’s for good reason.  Fall is the season that most people will be shopping next.  Sweaters and jeans and booties and such are the pieces that lots of gals will be looking to add to their closets.

That said, we’re also in the season that I consider to be SoCal’s true summer.  August, September, and even October are when things tend to seriously HEAT up around here, making me think a little more about beating the heat than fall fashion.  So while I’ll no doubt still be wearing (and posting) breezy, airy dresses and denim shorts for a while, I’ll also be sprinkling in some lightweight fall pieces that I can’t wait to wear like my favorite black skinnies.

I snagged these Madewell skinnies last year (seen here and here) and am still loving the sleek, all black look.  It’ll be a while before I’m pairing them with any sweaters, but a pretty little lace-trimmed blouse like this one from Wayf is not so far off.  (I also love this blouse now paired with a faux leather skirt like this one or this one and simple booties.)

The hot days roll on around here, and lately I’m looking for any way possible to beat the heat (or at least some way to prevent turning into the hot, bothered, slightly crazy lady that sometimes appears).  If I’m being honest, these days I rarely make it out of these Nike shorts and this matching tank.  I’m full-on Sporty Spice this summer, and I’m A-OK with that.

But on the rare day when the Nikes don’t exactly fit the dress code, then I’m reaching for these striped pretties.  They’re lightweight and breezy, super comfortable, and pretty freaking cute.  If you’re between sizes, I’d definitely recommend going down a size.  (There’s also an adorable matching tube top for you gals that are fine with a strapless bra situation.)  Paired with the breathable linen shirt that I’ve worn 1,000 times this summer, these shorts just may help me keep a little sanity.

Well, these shorts, made-up errands to walk around in air conditioning, and the never-ending return of a high ponytail.  And maybe occasionally a little chilled vino too.

If you’ve been seeing my posts about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and thinking, well damn, I just don’t have a Nordstrom card – today is your day, girlfriend.  Rise and shine, friends, because it’s time to shop!

If you’re looking for my favorite pieces from the sale, all you have to do is scroll back over the last week or so.  I’ve rounded up a few early faves, my home decor picks, and the best neutral booties in the sale.  Plus, over on the ‘gram you’ll find more picks like this floral dress (found here), this velvet lovely (shop it here), and this comfy little number (find it here for $35).

Today’s look is pretty much packed with sale finds, and these jeans are probably my favorite find of all.  They’re from one of my favorite denim brands, and when the pre-sale started, it was the first brand I searched in the sale.  They’re super comfy with a great mid-rise, and I love the distressing on the knee.  So good.  Pair ’em with this lovely little lace top and the studded heels that you just have to get for an easy peasy Friday night look.

Anyone tired of hearing about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale yet?  Oh come on now, the sale fun is just getting started.  I have a ton more sale content coming your way, but for now, here’s a fun striped top that I’ve been meaning to get up on the blog for weeks now.  I love the dramatic tie waist of this blouse and am always loving anything striped for summer.

The jeans I’ve worn quite a few times over on the old ‘gram (here and here), and they seriously fit like a dream.  The “high rise” is actually high enough – what’s up with all the phony high rise denim these days?  And the best part?  Even though the blouse and jeans aren’t IN the #nsale, they are currently both ON sale.  So that’s a win, right?

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve worn this little midi skirt twice and received SO many compliments, which obviously has me wondering why I don’t wear skirts more.  Truth be told though, I’m not much of a skirt kind of gal these days, but when I saw this one, I just couldn’t pass it up.  The wrap style and ruffle details – yes please.  Plus, I love the knotted front detail, and seersucker is basically a Southern summer necessity.

Also, let’s chat about this little bag for a sec, shall we?  This silly little clutch is literally EVERYWHERE I look.  So many bloggers have it, and it’s now available in so many colors.  I held out on buying it for quite a while, but when I saw the black one, the holding out was over.  And here’s the deal.  It’s totally impractical for some outings and can become a real pain if you, oh I don’t know, decide to take it up the Palm Springs tram one day and walk around lots of scenic lookout points with a glass of wine in your hand.  (Sounds far-fetched, but I accidentally achieved just that recently and was wishing I hadn’t brought this little birdcage along.  To fully paint the picture in your mind, I’ll let you know that I was also wearing studded gladiator sandals and a bright kimono in a sea of hiking shoes, Teva sandals, and fanny packs.)

BUT, in some settings, I just think it’s the cutest little outfit topper.  Fashion isn’t always 100% practical, right?  And if you’ve been wanting to get your hands on this black version without the steep pricetag, then click right over here for a matte black style that’s a bit more budget-friendly.  Just remember to keep it in the car should you decide to hop on the Palm Springs tram.  (I swear, it was a last-minute idea.)

Happy Friday, friends!  Sorry that I’ve been MIA for a couple of days here, but sometimes real life gets in the way of the blog life, what are ya gonna do.  And sometimes you spend five hours working on a sponsored post for a company only to have them back out at the last minute, once the entire thing is done.  Hashtag, that blogger life.  But we live and learn and have a glass of wine and move on, right?

So I figured I’d get this little floral midi dress up in time for the weekend because it’s seriously summertime perfection.  I love the wrap style and floral print, and the fabric is one of those that seems like it just can’t wrinkle.  The kind you can throw in your suitcase with no wrinkle worries.  And that makes me one happy camper.  Dressed up or down, it’s pretty versatile for day to night.

Last night my parents flew into town, and I couldn’t be happier for a little family time this Father’s Day weekend.  They were so excited to see our newly remodeled house, and my mom was over the moon to meet her new “grandpup“.  (Plus she’s already started rearranging and reorganizing our kitchen, to which I say, “YES.”)  We’ve got a fun day ahead, a day trip to Palm Springs tomorrow, and a Father’s Day BBQ on the horizon, so we’re all smiles over here.  Hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

If there’s one thing I love most in the summer style department, it’s probably a good two-piece set.  I’m still loving this lightweight set from a few weeks ago, and I’m not gonna lie, I wish this little set was still hanging in my closet.  (Admittedly, the skirt got a smidge too short, thumbs down emoji.)

But in my two-piece pursuit over the years, I always nixed any option that involved a crop top.  Let’s be real, busty gals tend to have a hard time in the crop top department.  In a rare surprise though, this one from Wayf actually fits, so I figured I’d give it a whirl.  I first took it for a spin in Mexico paired with a full midi skirt, but today I’m wearing the cropped, high-waist pants that were made to match.

While I loved the look, I was feeling a bit naked on top, so cropped little denim shirt to the rescue.  Also, if you’re looking for a perfect lightweight denim shirt for summer, this one is it.  Also also, I got this little black clutch thinking that it would come in handy for a few summer events, but I have seriously carried the heck out of it.  It really does go with so many of my outfits lately.

Anywho, what did I learn today?  That sometimes it’s A-OK to step outside of my comfort zone and try something new.  Crop tops?  For summer?  Groundbreaking.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

Well, well, well – how in the world is it almost Memorial Day weekend already?  I swear, it was just February last week.  I don’t know how it got here, but I’ll surely take it.  And like any fashion girl who loves a good theme, I’ll take any excuse for a little red, white, and blue color palette, so I’m rounding up a few of my favorite pieces for the upcoming long weekend here.  We’ll call it Memorial Day style inspiration, but really, it’s just a little peak at some of the summer’s best.

Number six will be arriving on my doorstep tomorrow morning, and we’ll see if I have the patience to save it for the weekend.  My money’s on no, but I’ll report back.  But how cute is this little tank dress paired with the wedges at number three that are already in my closet?  Way cute.  Just add a fun straw clutch and you’re good to go.  Also, I’m pretty sure I need these stars and stripes shorts at number 11, so that’s probably happening today. #ThatShoppingStruggle

Oh hey there, friends, how’s everyone’s week so far?  Things are looking up at the construction site house this Tuesday morning because it looks like maybe the fluke Southern California rain is finally over after four or five nutso days.  (I know that’s just another week in some parts of the country, but when your house is missing real walls to block the wind and the rain, things can get pretty messy.)

So blame it on the rain and a little bit of stir-crazy or blame it on the fact that I’ll take any excuse to online shop, but today I’m sharing another batch of online fashion finds that I’ve got in my cart.  And today, they’re all under $100.  That’s right, more bang for that tax refund buck (if you’re one of the lucky ones).  I just got the jeans at number two, and they are SO good, especially for the price point.  And the mules at number five – y’all, they are SO comfortable.  (I have them in burgundy velvet and now think I need them in every color.)  How cute would that splattered chambray shirt be paired with the denim cutoffs at number seven and the booties at number four?  So cute.  Here’s looking at you, spring.

And so ends a week of pack, pack, packing, y’all, and not a moment too soon.  (More on what I’m doing over here.)  Yesterday I realized that the first weekend of the new year is upon us, and I was like, YASSS.  And then I remembered that I’ll be spending it moving some of our stuff into our temporary rental home and lots more of it into a storage pod, and I was like, NOOO.  All good in the hood, though.  I’ll find some downtime in there somehow, and I plan to do absolutely nothing with it.  Anyone else looking for a couple of lazy days ahead?  Well if you are, then I’ve got your weekend uniform.

I scooped up this adorable little ruffle-sleeved sweater tee this week because, how cute?  So cute, and under $40.  And if anyone else is still feeling all that holiday overindulgence (raises hand slowly), then it’s time to get yourself a pair of these Spanx denim leggings because I’m telling you, they forgive all.  Annnnd while you’re at it, you might as well treat yo’self to the world’s most comfortable kicks.  Downright cushy, y’all.  I love these so much that I own them in two colors (because my mother-in-law rocks and bought me a second pair for Christmas), and if color options are your jam, well these come in over 20.  The taupe and the grey are my personal faves, and I have to say, they were just made for casual Fridays.
