Last month I headed home to Louisiana for a few days and actually got to spend most of those days in New Orleans.  (I grew up about an hour outside of New Orleans, so it isn’t very often that we actually spend the night there.)  I spent the first half of my stay with Eric and our parents working out a few wedding details, enjoying the city’s street performers, and eating ALL of the food.  We stayed at Hotel Mazarin, also our hotel for our wedding, and it was the perfect location.

For the second half of my stay, I met up with Jenn and enjoyed a little stay-cation at the International House Hotel.  The hotel was perfect, and the city views from the penthouse rooms are so beautiful.  The downstairs bar area was quirky and fun with amazing live music on Tuesday nights.  (Seriously – the music was so good.)  There’s no shortage of good food or entertainment in New Orleans, but here are a few standouts from the trip.

Court of Two Sisters:  This is an iconic spot that to me is a must-visit.  If the weather is nice, it’s the perfect place to dine outside under a canopy of trees.  The real standout here though is the service.  We had just gotten to New Orleans, and I was really craving red beans and rice (my favorite.)  Unfortunately red beans and rice aren’t on the menu at Court of Two Sisters, but I asked our waiter if they had it just in case.  Y’all – he brought me red beans from a sister restaurant before my meal came.  It’s something I’ll never forget.

Cafe Beignet:  I’m sure 100 people have told you that if you go to New Orleans, you have to go to Cafe Du Monde, but personally, I’m a Cafe Beignet fan.  The beignets are so good, and I love their quaint little courtyard.

District Donuts:  Well, these are just delicious.

Salon by Sucre:  Professing my love for this spot here.

Tableau:  This place was SO good!  They have great house wines “on tap”, and the food!  I got the Eggs Hussard which was basically Eggs Benedict with Filet Mignon.  So, there’s that.

Pier 24:  Two words: red beans.  I know, I know – again with the red beans.  New Orleans style red beans is just something that no one does right in California, so I eat it as much as possible when I’m home.  We loved this Bourbon Street place and actually decided to have our rehearsal dinner here.

Overall it was an amazing trip filled with good food, a few drinks, and good music.  A huge thank you to the International House Hotel for the stay, and can’t wait to visit again.  What are some of your favorite spots in New Orleans?

xoxo
