Well friends and fam, it’s that time again.  It’s time for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, and once again this year, I’ll be throwing a whole slew of my favorite deals your way.  So if you hate a good deal, just feel free to tune me out for the next couple of weeks.  I look forward to this sale every single year, and it’s seriously the best time to stock up on ALL of the fall things you know that you’ll want.  I know, I know – it may sound crazy to spring for those faux leather leggings right now considering it’s, well, July, but why wait and spend more for the same exact pair?  Once the sale is done, the prices go up, and you’re outta luck, Chuck.

Currently the sale is in the “Early Access” phase and only open to Nordstrom card-holders, but let me explain. I personally never ever apply for store credit cards as a personal rule and hate when you have to use a particular card for a sale, but Nordstrom does offer a store debit card. That means it’s hooked right up to your checking account like your normal debit card – purchases are pulled right from your account, and there’s no bill to pay at the end of the month. Not bad, right?  (If you need a card, head right over here.)

So today I’m rounding up a few standout favorites from my first glance at the sale, but believe me, there are so many more amazing finds.  Whether you’ve got your eye on handbags, booties, sneakers, denim, or anything in between (home goods, perhaps?), you don’t want to miss out on this once-a-year shebang.  Happy shopping, friends!

Happy Friday from new puppy hell!  I kid, I kid.  Sort of.  Y’all, I’ve never had a dog in my life, and I certainly never had a puppy pooping around my house, nibbling on my toes, spilling her water bowl all over the new wood floors, and crying like a newborn baby.  She’s been (more than) a handful this week, but when she whines for me to pick her up or nuzzles up next to me for a nap, I’m pretty sure it’s all worth it.  Pretty sure.

Today we’re headed to Palm Springs for the day and taking the pup on her first car trip.  Wish us luck or send wine or something.  But in any case, I’m thinking these leggings for the car trip win.  Y’all, they are SO good.  The fit is amazing, and there’s a detail I never even knew I needed in leggings – pockets.  When I first saw these, I thought the pockets might be unflattering, but surprisingly, they’re pretty unnoticeable.  And the fabric on these is just plain delicious.

And now I must run because a) the pup is sniffing around suspiciously and b) the husband is tapping his foot, ready to leave.  So happy long weekend, friends!  Here’s hoping your Memorial Day weekend is BBQ filled and puppy accident free.

Happy Friday, friends!  I’m fresh off of a two-night stay at the Hyatt in Huntington Beach, and I’ll tell ya, it’s not easy to leave that place.  There’s a full post on that coming up, but it’s been an amazing couple of days.  Thank God it’s the weekend because I’d be seriously blue right about now.  And actually, it’s not just any weekend.  It’s the weekend that we’re moving back into our house!  It’s been a looooong time coming, and I couldn’t be more excited.  The actual moving part is not so fun and things aren’t 100% finished at the house, but it’s close enough and we’re calling it quits on the rental finally.  I can’t wait to share so much home content in the coming months and get to the fun part: decorating.  (You can usually stay tuned in on the progress over on Instagram and Instagram stories.)  Hope everyone has an amazing weekend ahead!

Vacation Style and the Perfect Summer Shoes (Plus a Giveaway)

Hello and happy Tuesday from Playa de La Paz, y’all!  Last week’s trip came at the perfect time because (besides getting far, far away from our construction project home) I finally got to break in some of the new spring and summer pieces that I’d been staring at in my closet.  A flowy midi skirt and my first ever crop top (that actually fits!) were just made for a vacay.  (As were hats with everything to cover the wind-blown mane.)

And then there are the shoes.  These lace-up cork heels from Johnston & Murphy are the perfect summer update on the staple style from fall, and they’re the only heels I brought with me to Mexico.  While packing, I really couldn’t think of any other pair that I might want with me.  In the perfect neutral shade, they’ll seriously go with everything this summer, and as an added bonus, they’re SUPER comfortable.  I’m imagining these with every dress, skirt, and blouse in my summer arsenal and can’t wait to add them to the shoe shelf in our new and improved home.  Is that crazy?  Call me crazy, I don’t care.  Just be prepared to see these on serious repeat in the coming months.

Spring Staple: Denim Jacket

I’m pretty sure there was a point in time when I would have laughed at myself for wearing (or obsessing over) a denim jacket.  And an embroidered, oversized, trucker jacket?  Probably wouldn’t have crossed my mind.  But in recent years, a good denim jacket has become my absolute go-to in the spring and summer.  In Southern California, even the nicest, warmest days can turn into chilly nights, and a great denim jacket is so easy to throw over so many spring looks.  Pair it with white or black denim, sundresses, or in this case, the suck-you-in faux leather leggings that I’ve lived in since fall.  Hashtag, uniform.

Gap has always been the first place I go for denim jackets (I have this classic style and LOVE it – use code YOURTREAT for 40% off), but when I came across this embroidered style recently, I couldn’t get it out of my head.  Annnd after, like, two days, I had to go back for it.  Two denim jackets are better than one, right?  I love the oversized fit of it, but definitely size down – it runs pretty big.  (I’m wearing the medium.)  It’s the softest denim, and I find myself throwing it on over everything lately, including my PJ’s when I forget that it’s street sweeping day and have to sprint out of the house to move my car before getting a ticket.  But that’s, you know, just me.  The rest of today’s look couldn’t be easier, and I can’t tell you how much use I’ve gotten out of these sneakers.  (Head over here for SO many color options.)  Hope everyone is having an amazing week!

One of my favorite pre-spring sales is back, and I’ve been (impatiently) waiting, adding more and more to my cart every day.  It’s the Buy More, Save More Shopbop sale that comes around twice a year, and it’s the best way to stock up on new, non-sale pieces at a discount.  (Although you can also get sale pieces for a serious steal – they’re included too!)  New spring sandals, a spankin’ new handbag, a new dress or two, or whatever your little heart desires – now’s the time.  The sale officially kicks off tomorrow, but you can shop it now with code GOBIG17.  The dress, sneakers, and crossbody bag in the look above are all part of the sale, and y’all, I can’t recommend them more.  The striped dress is such a classic staple, and the fabric is the softest.  (Plus, it’s not super thin, so it isn’t too sheer.)  The linen sneakers are beyond comfortable, and the bag is the perfect throw-on-and-go size.  So head over to the Shopbop sale and treat yourself to some favorites because five days from now, you’ll be kicking yourself if you don’t, right?

All of the Denim Things

Fashion blogger Nikki Minton Prendergast of My Style Diaries shares favorite spring denim pieces including denim skirts, denim shorts, denim jackets, and a denim shirtdress. 1. Rose Denim Mini Skirt  2. Longline Denim Jacket  3. Patch Pocket Skirt  – 40% off with code VDAY  4. Shorter Length Denim Jacket  5. Classic Denim Jacket – 40% off with code VDAY  6. Embroidered Denim Trucker Jacket  7. Long Denim Jacket  8. Railroad Stripe Paperbag-Waist Jeans  – 40% off with code VDAY  9. Chambray Shirtdress (under $50)  10. High Rise Pleat Shorts – 40% off with code VDAY  11. Distressed Denim Trucker Jacket

With more than a couple new pairs of jeans already in my arsenal for spring (see here and here), I’m turning my attention to all of the other denim things out there that I’m pretty sure my wardrobe, well, needs.  During the spring (and not quite spring) months when I admittedly jump the gun on the warm weather wear, I live in my denim jacket.  (I currently have the version at number five, and it’s a keeper.)  It’s the perfect piece to throw on over a little dress, with white denim, or with a fun pair of shorts, and this year, I’m loving the oversized “trucker” versions that are popping up everywhere.  I’ve shared number six above before (here and here) because I’m pretty obsessed and had just about decided to pull the trigger, but now I’m thinking, how’s a girl to choose?  Similarly, a denim dress is something that I think every closet needs, and the easy version at number nine above is under $50.  This year in lieu of sandals and wedges, I’ll be pairing mine with another new obsession – sneakers.  Anyone else caught the denim shopping bug hard this season?

Last week I shared a few of my favorite budget basics (along with a few favorite spring sneakers), and today, I’m adding in a couple more.  I’ve been on a serious denim-buying kick these days, but I’ve found SO many affordable, flattering pairs lately that I’m like, why stop?  I love the fun distressing on this pair, and they fit like a glove.  They’re under $100, but I’ve actually found them on sale right over here.  The sneakers could not be more comfortable and fun for Spring, and if you haven’t scooped up this $17 tee yet, you’re missing out, babes.  (I actually just picked up a second because it’s such a favorite.)  Add in a cozy cardigan and the bag that always gets 1,000 compliments, and it’s the perfect look for running around town getting things done.  We’ve got a little over a month left in the rental house, so that means things need to kick into overdrive at our casa.  (The four to five days of predicted rain this week is throwing a little wrench into the plans…)  But the day moves on and here’s hoping everyone has an amazing week ahead.

Today marks one whole month since we packed up our entire house and moved to a rental house while we undergo a remodel.  One whole month of going without my entire closet because everything is wrapped up tightly in plastic to keep the construction dust out.  Sure, I’ve snuck back in a couple of times to grab this piece or that, but for the most part, I’ve been living in the few pieces that I packed…and a few that I’ve recently purchased.

I’ll admit that I’ve done a tiny bit of shopping over the last couple of weeks, but not nearly as much as I thought I might feel like I needed to.  (And to be fair, a new season is just around the corner that I’d probably be shopping for anyway.)  And the reason is simple.  Lately I’ve been sticking with easy budget basics that I can wear over and over again with different pieces from my (temporary) closet.  Easy tees like the one above (only $17 and SO soft) and this $25 striped version (that I scooped up in both colors) are great for layering, mixing and matching.  Distressed denim is a no-brainer for everyday-wear, and this pair is so comfortable and under $75.  (In fact, every piece in the look above is under $100.)

And then there are the sneakers.  To say that I’m obsessed with these would definitely be an understatement.  When I first bought them, I was a little undecided whether they were actually going to get much use, but I was so wrong.  Y’all, I wear the crap out of these.  They are so very comfy and are definitely one of my new favorite denim companions.  And to be honest, they make me feel like my sweats are a little more…um, grocery store acceptable.  I love these so much, that I’ve gone a little sneaker mad lately and will be sharing 20 of my favorites on the blog tomorrow.  So stay tuned for that.  And stay tuned for more budget basics coming your way that are great for now and into Spring.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

xoxo
