If you ask me what my least favorite trend of the moment would be, my answer is hands-down, without a doubt the whole “dad sneaker” thing. I mean what in the world are we thinking, fashion friends? It’s gonna be a big fat NO from me, dawg, and while we’re at it, I’ll go ahead and throw in the Kardashian-esque horrendous bike shorts and tiny 90’s sunglasses that are flattering on literally no one’s faces. More power to you if you’re into these things, but I’m just unapologetically NOT here for it.
Now something I can get behind? Sneakers of so many styles and colors – just not the dad variety. I’ve been on board the sneaker train for a while, but last fall is when I really kicked most of my booties to the curb in favor of my favorite comfy kicks. I’m obsessed with this athletic-inspired pair, can’t get enough of this comfy grey pair, and have worn these leopard sneaks more times than I could ever count.
And I’ve already started adding to the collection this season starting with the metallic leopard sneakers above. Y’all, these are fur-lined and seriously feel like walking on a cushy cloud. I can’t recommend these enough for pairing with jeans, jogggers, my favorite faux leather leggings, or even this gold skirt. (That look is coming to the blog soon.) I also just recently purchased this pair that I L-O-V-E.
So today I’m rounding up a few more favorite pairs of the moment because when it comes to sneaker love, I just can’t get enough. Hope everyone is having a great week!
Another day, another step closer to fall, and I’m one happy camper about it. Now don’t get me wrong. I love summer just as much as the next cat, but when I’m sick of the heat, I’m really SICK of it. I’m ready for pumpkin spice things (#basic), football games, and some breezy, pleasant weather. Bring on the sweaters, jackets, booties, Spanx leggings, and the comfiest high rise denim I own.
I’ve noticed the last couple of seasons that “high rise denim” sometimes is NOT very high rise at all, but I really can’t say enough good things about the high rise pairs I’ve snagged from Madewell. (You can find other favorite pairs here and here.) The rise is actually high enough, the denim is comfortable and flattering, and they’re available in SO many washes and style variations. They’re also pretty well-priced (with a ton of pairs under $100 right now), and some styles (like the pair I’m wearing) come in sizes 23 to 37.
Annnnd since today’s post is clearly all about singing Madewell’s praises (not sponsored), well then I guess I have to mention the mules too, right? Y’all, prepare to see these leopard flats a bunch this fall. They are so comfortable and pair just as easily with a basic black dress as they do with a bold floral jacket, and I’ll be wearing them on repeat for sure.
What are some of the cool weather staples you can’t wait to pull out this year?
So who’s had a little luck with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this past week? I can definitely say that I found some pieces I LOVE this year. A few days ago I shared a bunch of my favorite picks from the sale, and today I’m dishing on the pieces that actually made it home with me. Well, so far. My main strategy this year was to focus on pieces that I could wear now rather than stocking up on sweaters and boots that will take months (and months and months) to make it out of my closet, and I’m happy to say there are a TON of pieces in the sale that are heat wave approved.
The little coral dress above may be a favorite find in the sale, but I’ll admit that I’ve probably got a few favorites. This dress is SO lightweight and comfy, and I love the ruffle detail of the skirt. It’s a color that I don’t wear often, but now I’m wondering why I don’t wear it more. This one is under $100, and you can still snag it in all sizes. Also, this bag is so good and currently over $75 off.
This Wayf dress is an updated version of one of their best-selling styles from last year, and I can see why it’s so popular. It’s light and airy, easy to wear, and currently comes in two prints plus this pretty purple color. Oh, and it’s under $50. I’m thinking it’s pretty perfect for those upcoming summer weddings on everyone’s horizons.
OK, this dress, y’all – all the heart emojis. I took this one to Boulder with me this past weekend for the Dead & Company show, and although it was definitely toasty out, this little floral number managed to keep me pretty cool. It’s under $40, and I’m super tempted to snag it in a second color. (And maybe another color in this bag?)
Every year in the sale I look for a great pair of jeans, and for me this year this pair is IT. (Although I’ve heard there is a pair of Blank NYC jeans that I also need to hunt down and try.) I’ve been a fan of Madewell jeans (and really, all things Madewell) since snagging this pair a few months ago. Their high rise is actually high, and their denim gives without stretching out so you won’t be pulling them up all day. (The sizing has been in and out of stock, but my guess is that these will be completely restocked when the sale goes live for everyone, not just card-holders, on the 20th.)
This dress is probably the piece that I searched for in my local store first. I just LOVE the jewel tone color, the dramatic sleeves, and pretty pleats. This one definitely runs a bit big, so make sure you size down.
I know I said my goal was to focus on pieces that I could wear now, but these booties were just too good to pass up. They’re about to be my staple fall footwear with dresses, skirts, leather shorts, you name it and are actually the only pair of shoes that I bought in the sale so far. (Although my plan is to scoop up a pair of sneakers today – I just can’t decide which ones!)
There are a couple more days to shop the Early Access sale, and then everything is open to the public from July 20th to August 5th. (If you’re not a card-holder and getting a little worried that things are selling out quickly – they usually do a pretty big restock when the sale opens to everyone.) Happy shopping, friends!
Well, gals – it’s that time of year again. It’s July, when the sales are everywhere you turn and every blogger and her mom is pushing links at you daily. While I won’t be covering every single sale that’s happening over the next couple of weeks, today I’m sharing some of my favorite finds from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale because honestly, I enjoy shopping the sale myself. (The sale is currently open for “Early Access” to cardholders and will open to everyone on July 15th.)
In years past, I rounded up EVERYTHING that I loved in the sale, but these days, I’m only interested in things that I really love that I can use right now. (Let’s face it, we never know if or when sweater weather will show up in Southern California. It’s a big IF.) This year the things that caught my eye the most are denim, sneakers, and designer sunnies (like I need anymore sunglasses). Oh, and socks. I really just freaking love Stance no-show and athletic socks. I would also absolutely buy these slippers if I didn’t already own them.
But below I’ve also included a couple of sweaters, loungewear pieces, and boots/booties just in case you’re looking for those. (Side note: these boots are giving major Staud vibes for a fraction of the price.) And I’ll be sharing more fave finds over on my Instagram in stories all week long. If you’re shopping the sale, here’s hoping you find just what you’re looking for. Happy shopping, friends!
St. Patrick’s Day is this week, and while I’m not always 100% into celebrating, I am conveniently VERY drawn to all things green this season. And luckily, green is everywhere for spring in every shade you could want. From lightweight sweaters and comfy loungewear to bold handbags and sandals, I’ve found so many new favorite green pieces lately.
So today I’m sharing a couple of favorite St. Patty’s Day ready looks with quick shipping that can arrive in time for the party. (Also apologies for the last vacay-ready look to all of you still stuck in snowy weather – I’ll be in Palm Springs for St. Patty’s Day where it will be 85 and sunny, so I had to!) You can also check out this post for a few more green ideas. Hope everyone has a great week ahead!
Happy Thursday, friends! It’s been a while since I rounded up a whole bunch of recent looks, so today I’m doing just that. And while I didn’t actually plan it this way, pretty much everything in the post is super affordable. A couple of my standout faves? These ivory denim shorts that I wear a ton are currently marked down to $14. (I sized up.) This linen shirt from Amazon is so great over a swimsuit or paired with denim shorts, both below. I live in these $15 graphic tees, and this adorable romper is almost 60% off.
Happy Wednesday, friends! This morning I realized that I blinked and February was just about gone. Just like that, it’s almost March, and in my mind, almost spring. Wardrobe-wise, I’m SO ready for ALL things spring. Bring on the shorts, the dresses, the sandals, and everything else in between. And for today, here’s a little photo dump of so many looks from the last few weeks because spring or not, my favorite sneakers, loungewear, and comfy denim are here to stay.
Look who busted out of quarantine! (I kid, I kid – as I mentioned in this post, I shot a few spring looks ahead of time without even realizing the days that were coming.) So today I’m sharing my favorite new PJ set that I fully intend to exclusively wear in public once, you know, going in public is cool again.
Way back in February (seems like a year ago), I found myself roaming around Target looking for a gift for a one-year-old’s birthday party. And what do you know I somehow found myself in the loungewear department? Y’all, if you’ve been sleeping on the Stars Above loungewear at Target, it’s time to quit hitting snooze because it is GOOD. I ended up leaving with this set, this favorite set, and the striped pieces above. (And a gift for the one-year-old.)
The pieces are beyond soft and can be worn together or separate. (You can see the sweater paired with jeans here.) The shorts will also be super cute with a simple white tee during summer months. Each piece is under $20 and perfect for this current quarantine climate in SoCal. And should you find yourself in the shopping mood, the sneakers, sunglasses, and favorite Gorjana necklace are all on sale.
As I’m scrolling around on social media or different websites, you know what clickbait just gets me every single time? The Amazon roundups. Seriously, I’ll click on just about any “Amazon favorites” list I can find because they just have some of the best, and usually affordable, finds. I actually recently went back and read my last two Amazon posts (see them here and here), and I still 100% stand by everything I linked.
This beyond cozy cardigan that comes in 8 colors (above) – I’ve got a whole slew of black, grey, and other random cardigans, but a couple of months ago I went on the hunt for a great camel-ish / tan one for now and into spring. After ordering, trying, and returning quite a few, I finally decided to (DUH) search around on Amazon. I ordered the one above in medium and large and ended up keeping the medium. I love the super soft fabric, slightly oversized fit, and big pockets. Plus, it’s pretty much the exact shade of camel I was looking for. (Now I’m thinking I probably need the oatmeal color, right?)
A daily SPF that Eric and I both love – A couple of years ago, I finally got Eric into a daily SPF habit. He ends up spending a lot of time on the road in his car for work, so I thought it was important for him to be in a daily sunscreen routine instead of only applying before the beach or outdoor activities. We’ve used up a ton of tubes from a few different brands, and this one tends to be a favorite because it rubs in easily with no greasy or white residue. (We also both love this one from The Treatment.)
This flowy maxi that is just begging for spring weather – OK, I JUST got this dress in this week in the navy color and loved it so much that I already ordered a second color. It’s super lightweight and comfy, has such an easy fit, and couldn’t be more fun for spring. It hits me right at my ankle, so it’s perfect for pairing with flat sandals, wedges, low booties, or sneakers. I’ve got a wine-tasting girls’ weekend in March that this dress was made for – stay tuned, I’ll be styling it on the blog soon.
Grip socks to keep that New Year’s resolution going – I’ve been doing Pilates for years (currently loving the megaformer machines and classes at Seafit Studio) and am probably a year or two late in upgrading and generally restocking the ol’ grip socks. (Where DO they all go, anyway?) These from Ro & Arrows are super comfy, provide a ton of grip, and are made of breathable, moisture-wicking fabric. Plus, they’re pretty cute (with more prints coming soon) – perfect reason to stock up, right?
A muscle recovery soak for post-workout soreness – And after the workout comes the old lady, all-over sore muscles, am I right? (No? Just me?) While a hot bath is always a favorite of mine, a hot bath with this muscle recovery soak is even better. The Epsom salt is super relaxing for sore muscles, and the smell of this one with menthol and eucalyptus is also so great for battling a little winter sickness.
The cherry pepper spread I use in (and on) EVERYTHING – I’m a fan of Jersey Mike’s subs and ordered this thinking it would be similar to their red pepper spread. It’s similar, seriously delicious, and (in my opinion) goes in and on ALL of the things. It’s obviously great on sandwiches, but I also add it to my Safe Catch tuna (instead of another relish) and usually throw a dollop into tossed salads and quinoa bowls. It adds a slightly spicy, vinegar-y kick that I love.
The bathtub caddy that I’m STILL obsessed with – Admittedly I’ve had this thing for about a year and have shared it on the blog before, but I really just love this bathtub caddy. The sides of our bathtub slant inward a bit, so balancing products, magazines, or the occasional glass of wine is out of the question. I’m happy to have this little caddy every time I take a bath and feel like it’s really well-made for the price – ours still looks pretty new.
While the skinny jeans in my closet are definitely my most worn and loved, I’ve also got a real thing for a great pair of flares. I spotted these at the Free People store in Palm Springs (with my size still in stock, naturally) and figured I’d try them on “just to see”. Fast forward ten minutes later to me skipping out of the store with my new denim purchase.
They’ve got stretch but not too much stretch – so they’re comfortable and hug curves without sagging – and a super high rise. I’d say they’re pretty true to size. I normally take a 27 in Madewell’s super stretch denim, but I grabbed these in a 28 because they just felt more comfortable. They come in 16 different washes (seriously, 16), and some of those washes are available in short, regular, and tall sizing. And the best part? They’re under $100.
I feel like styling flares can be a little intimidating, so today I’m sharing a couple of ways I’d wear these, now and into spring. (Although for the spring look below, I’d probably switch up the long sleeved tee to this easy tank.) I love keeping them long and pairing with a super high wedge to seriously elongate legs, and personally, I like them with a kimono or long cardigan to keep the lines long. (But for shorter friends, I’ve seen a simple tucked or front-tucked tee work best.)
It can take a little trial and error, but once you figure out what works best for you, I think you’ll love these. What do you think – are flares for you?
