It’s late in the day (week, month?), but as a followup to yesterday’s sale post, today I’m sharing some favorite finds from Nordstrom’s spring sale that kicked off this week. I hadn’t initially planned to share my picks, but after spending WAY too much time scrolling around the sale pages, I figured it was just too good to pass up. Like I said yesterday, if you’re in the shopping mood right now, feel free to take a peek. And if not, no worries! (And apologies in advance – once I started adding things to my list, I just couldn’t stop.)
My personal most favorite faves? You know I can’t stop yammering on about these jeans, and they just got restocked in all sizes. (I just ordered a second pair and this white pair to try.) I grabbed a few pairs of these no-show socks because I’m telling you, they’re the BEST. I also can’t recommend this romper or this caftan more – SO good for summer. (Because no matter what, summer is still coming, guys.)
Here’s hoping everyone has a great (and safe) weekend ahead.
Happy Monday from paradise! I kid, I kid – I’m writing this blog post from my bed with two crazy pups snuggled up next to me. And now that I think of it, maybe that is a little Monday morning paradise.
It may be only April, but we’ve already had our first couple of swimsuit weather days around here, and I’m 100% on board. I’ve got my sights firmly set on ALL of the spring, summer, and resort style pieces, and the number one item on my list every year? Gimme all of the cute swimsuit coverups. During the spring and summer months I tend to live in coverups, and during our Palm Springs weekends in particular, I’ll usually ditch the swimsuit and throw one on over slip to go from the pool to dinner or drinks.
So today I’m rounding up twenty-five favorites – from dresses to rompers, caftans and sarong styles – in a range of prices. Click through below to find your new favorite. Now excuse me while I go throw a few in a bag for the desert weekend ahead. Happy almost Friday, everyone!
If you were following along on the good old ‘Gram this past weekend, then you probably noticed quite a few snaps from the Hyatt Huntington Beach. Because we can never stop adding on projects for our house, Eric and I decided that we wanted to add wainscoting to a couple more walls in our living room and bar area. Sounds simple enough. Once the wood panels are up, then starts the sanding, bonding, and painting, and suddenly the entire house is covered in a thin layer of dust and SO many fumes.
So as a sort of early Valentine’s Day (and a definite way to keep from losing our minds), we used our best evacuation route and headed down the street to one of our favorite hotels, the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach. We’ve stayed here once before for Eric’s birthday, but this time we brought along the pup and settled in for four nights. So just in time for Valentine’s Day, I’m rounding up five things to love about the Hyatt Huntington Beach.
Dog-Friendly Hotel: Like I said, we took Louise along with us, and the Hyatt was more than accommodating. When we checked in, there was a dog bed, food and water bowls, and even a few toys in our room for Weeze which was such a nice surprise for this less-than-prepared dog mom. She loved exploring around the property and was able to hang with us on a patio area where we had margaritas on Saturday. Plus, she got so much love from strangers and plenty of beach walks while we were there. Which brings me to…
Bridge to the Beach: I always talk about this in my Instagram stories while I’m there, but it really is SO convenient that there’s a bridge from the Hyatt property across Pacific Coast Highway to the beach. It’s the only hotel in the area that has one, and it made getting out on those beach walks so quick and easy. And trust me, I needed the exercise after…
Pete’s Sunset Grille – If you’re staying at the Hyatt or just live somewhere around Huntington Beach, you have to check out Pete’s. Their spicy margaritas (made seriously spicy with jalapeno-infused tequila) are my favorite of any place around here, and their Barrel Bowls are my jam. (Think coconut rice, broccolini, protein of your choice, a fried egg…) I’m not really a fish taco gal, but Eric and a bunch of our friends love them here. And if you’re still hungry…
Watertable: We ate at Watertable the last time that we stayed at the Hyatt, and we loved it. So this time, we made sure to go back. Twice. In a row. It really is that good. On Sunday night, we shared a bunch of appetizers (Get the meatballs! and the fries!), and on Monday night, we went with favorites from the entree list. Eric went with the Chilean sea bass, and I had the Branzino – both were delicious.
So Many Outdoor Spaces: We’re super lucky to live in a place that has beautiful weather most of the year, so why not spend as much time outside as possible? The pool area (there are a couple, but I prefer the quieter, more adult-friendly one) is huge with tons of seating and a yummy lunch menu. There are fire pits that we sat by at night, and Weeze loved roaming around the big open grass areas.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay and didn’t want to leave! If you’re looking for a really great place to stay in the town that I call home, you really can’t go wrong with the Hyatt Huntington Beach. Now it’s back to reality with my two favorite Valentines – Eric and Weeze, of course. Hope everyone has a great week!
And now this pretty-in-peach, rose gold embellished number is being added to the list. Y’all, I loved it when I saw it online, but in person it’s even more delicate and pretty. I love the cutout shoulder details, beaded tassels, and palm tree print, and I think it would make such a pretty little Valentine’s Day dress for those of us in the warmer weather.
If you’re a Lilly lover or maybe a newbie looking to dip your toes into the Lilly Pulitzer madness (trust – Lilly fans are no joke), then now is the perfect time because their biggest sale of the year is officially ON. It’s called the After Party Sale, and it’s pretty much bananas. If you head over to the site, it’ll put you in a queue and give you a wait time. It seems a little crazy, but it’s meant to make everyone’s shopping experience a little better (and prevent their site from crashing I’m sure).
So that’s it – wait your turn, and you’re in. No codes to enter, no song and dance. You can be sure I’ve got my eyes on the prize and claiming any pretty little Palm Springs-friendly pieces to take with me to Modernism Week in February. Happy shopping, friends!
It’s crazy to say, but I realized recently that I’ve now lived in California for over ten years. Ten! It certainly feels a lot more like home now than the big, scary place that it once was, but no matter how comfy I get here, I’ll never get used to the crazy beautiful views around here. The California coast is seriously one of my favorite sights to see. Today I’m sharing another look from my evening of Laguna Beach exploring with Pura Soul Photo, and man, was this a pretty sunset.
After roaming the beach a bit, we made our way to a rock that extended into the ocean to take in the last bits of sunlight. It was gloomy and chilly and moody and perfectly dreamy. I could have stayed in this spot for hours, but a rogue wave snuck up on me, drenched me head to toe, and pretty much called it a day for us. Whatever. Totally worth the damp drive home and necessary next-day pedicure. Some things are just too good to take for granted, right?
This white midi caftan is a recent find that I’m beyond obsessed with. It’s lightweight and easy-breezy, and sadly, already sold out. Agghhh. But if you missed out on ordering, I’m linking a few similar styles (like this one that’s next on my shopping list) below that just might get you in the beachy summer spirit. Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Well, I’m admittedly a few days late in posting this roundup (just blame it on the dog), but the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale is currently in full swing and the deals are still worth checking out. We’ve had more than a few chilly days around here, so I’m all about the affordable denim finds and the tops to go with them. There are also a ton of great swimwear options. (This bikini top is SO great for busty gals – I own it in at least five colors. This one also looks like it’s worth a shot.) There are over 13,000 items included in the sale, so head on over and check out the goods. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it.
In case y’all haven’t heard a time or two on this blog, I grew up in Louisiana. And in case you don’t know, those summers can be a bit…TOASTY. Holy moly, the sweat factor. Now don’t get me wrong – HUGE fan of the South over here, and all of the food and all of the people and all of the hospitality and all of the Y’alls. But there’s just that summer heat, man…
Last July I found myself in Miami for Swim Week and thought, oh yeah, there’s that heat I remember. Holy humidity. The coolest, breeziest pieces in my suitcase were swimsuit coverups, and I wanted to wear them everywhere. (See here and here.) Problem: They tend to be a little sheer. Not wanting to show my booty to Miami, I wore swimsuits under them a couple of times and pretended I came straight from the beach. #Guilty.
But these days, I’ve got a better solution. Y’all, you have GOT to invest in a good nude slip. I’ve looked around for one for years, but I feel like they’re always tight-fitting. If you’ve tried one of those, maybe you’re in my boat – they ALWAYS “ride up” and end up anywhere except for where you want them – all bunched up and crazy. Know what I’m saying? Anywho, I’ve found an amazing version, and I LOVE this one. (It fits a bit looser, but it was a little long so I cut it.)
In the photos above, I’m sharing a new favorite coverup from Parker, but it’s just too pretty to be limited to the pool. Am I right? (Although I could totally spend unlimited time at the Hyatt Huntington Beach pool.) Pop a little slip under, and it’s a new favorite (easy, breezy) summer dress. Hot and bothered looks good on no one, y’all. Get a lightweight nude slip, and live your best life. Happy Tuesday, guys!
You guys, it’s been just about a week since we left Playa de La Paz, and I’m still floating from this dreamy girls’ trip. (But you probably already knew that if you follow along on Instagram – can’t stop, won’t stop with the photos. #SorryNotSorry) Around two hours away from the Cabo airport (where we flew into), Playa de La Paz is a collection of 23 residences on the Sea of Cortez. If you head over to their website, you can see a few beautiful pictures and an amazing aerial video, and I have to say, it’s even better in person. (I think we all know that a website can make a place look nicer than it actually is, but that’s not the case here. It really is as nice as I imagined it, but better.)
Kathleen, Jenn, Krystal and I arrived to Playa de La Paz last Monday and quickly made ourselves at home in a 3-bedroom residence. Holy moly, this place, y’all. Everything inside of the home was sparkling new and beyond nice – we’re talking serious kitchen and bathroom goals. (Still kicking myself for not making the time to take a really long bath in the oversized jacuzzi tub in our room.) The kitchen was stocked with fresh fruit, tons of snacks (Mexico legit has the best snacks), and some vino that we mysteriously kept making disappear. To me, it’s so nice to have a full kitchen on a vacay like this one because you can wake up, grab breakfast at your leisure, and get ready for the activities of the day.
And activities we did. On our first full day, we walked steps away from our back door and hopped on a boat for the day with The Cortez Club. We were all pretty excited to see a huge school of manta rays playfully swimming around, but we really lost our minds when we found ourselves smack in the middle of SO. MANY. DOLPHINS. Did you guys happen to catch that video on the old Instagram story? Because that was bananas. Then a couple members of our group swam with sea lions and a whale shark, but I kept myself parked on the boat soaking up the sunshine.
Throughout the rest of the week, we explored the town of La Paz (so cute and not overrun with tourists), enjoyed the most amazing sunset dinner on the beach complete with a mariachi band (so much fun), had massages on our patio, tried a little outdoor yoga, and went for a sunset horseback ride along the beach. I can’t even lie, I felt WAY too spoiled during all of this and more than a little guilty that Eric was back in California dealing with the home remodel. He’s a real trooper, that guy.
And then there was the food. With its location right on the Sea of Cortez, La Paz is known for its fresh seafood, and for four Southern gals, we were in heaven. Every meal I had there became my new favorite meal, and I’m still dreaming about the Shrimp Diablo at Pichilingue. Other favorite restaurants included: Cafe Santa Fe (in Todos Santos), The Bagel Shop for breakfast and the best lunch sandwiches, and Nim for dinner.
Overall, I can’t say enough good things about our time at Playa de La Paz, and while the residences are all for sale, you can also rent a place if you’re looking for the ultimate secluded getaway, free of the usual hotel crowds. The motto of the property is A World Apart, and it really couldn’t be more accurate.
The last couple of days have been really chilly and gloomy in Southern California (and I know that parts of the country woke up under a blanket of snow today), but dang it, it’s spring break time and I’ve got resort style on the brain. Plus, I’ve got an upcoming trip to Mexico in just a couple of weeks that I can’t stop daydreaming about. And by daydreaming, I mean packing and planning outfits in my head. I can’t wait to share more about that trip with you guys!
But for now, I’m rounding up a few favorite resort style finds that are on my radar and in my shopping cart. You guys, the shoes at numbers 5 and 11 – did you know that Katy Perry has a new shoe line? And as could be expected, it’s a really fun one – no shocker there. Also, these bags. I have a total thing with beach bags and little beachy clutches. I certainly do not need any more of them, but they’re so cute! And I pretty much live in coverups and caftans here in the spring and summertime. They’re so comfortable and prevent the hot-and-bothered overheating, so I tell myself I can never have too many. What are some of your favorite resort vacation essentials? (Plus scroll through below for more of my favorite finds right now.) Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
