Quick question, friends – when’s the last time you found a really cute skort?  Admittedly, it’s been a LONG time since I’ve come across the skirt-short combo that I wore nonstop as a kid, but after reentering the skort world recently with this cabi version, I’m wondering why in the world these ever went away.  I mean, I know they’re actually the perfect option for kiddos running around on a playground, but what’s wrong with offering a little breeze protection to the grown up kiddos running errands?

Blame it on the more than breezy weather we’ve had around here lately (seriously, where are you, summer??), but I’m thinking that my wardrobe needs a couple more fake skirts and this one or this little pretty just might be next.  Just add a simple tee or tank, comfy wedges or sandals, and the denim trench that you wore to death a few years ago and have recently rediscovered.

And now I’m off for some San Diego exploring.  I’m here for the week with my mom and godmother and am wondering WHY it has to be so chilly and windy this week.  Also wondering why I only brought one pair of jeans and lots of dresses that are now useless.  Will I ever learn how to pack for this fickle SoCal weather?  Maybe not, but it’s always a good excuse for some shopping, right?  Hope everyone has a great week ahead!

Happy New Year, y’all!  How’s everyone feeling?  Nothing that a little Bloody Mary can’t fix, I’m sure.  We spent our New Year’s Eve in a cabin in the mountains where we’ve spent several before, and it’s pretty much the best.  No dressing up and no making plans.  Don’t we do that enough during the year?  No crowded bars and no expensive event tickets to buy.  You just bundle up in every Southern California layer that you own, grab takeout Chinese food, and hang out by a fire with friends.  It’s cozy, and I dig it.  So here we are, in 2016.  And it seems that my love of flares didn’t get left behind in 2015.  And neither did my denim on denim habit.  So I’m going with it.  I think that’s what you’re supposed to do in 2016, right?  Hope everyone’s January is off to a great start!

A couple of weeks ago I got home from a walk to the grocery store and realized that I had locked myself out of the house.  Always a fun discovery, and in my defense, I’m still getting used to the self-locking door of the rental house.  I had to kill a little time before Eric got home from work to save the day, and luckily I had a fresh People StyleWatch magazine in hand.  (Confession: I’m a total print magazine hoarder, and the nice lady who lived in our house before we bought it has never changed the address on her 100’s of magazine subscriptions.  Slight exaggeration, but girlfriend subscribes to a bunch, and I’m not mad at it.)

Anywho, I’m flipping through the mag and came across this little spring sweater from the Who What Wear X Target collection, and I was like, I need that right now.  I literally drove straight to Target and bought one of the last of these sweaters.  By now you know I love a good bell sleeve, and it’s the perfect lightweight knit for spring.  I definitely recommend sizing up though.  The sweater is meant to fit pretty snug, but I wanted a looser fit so I sized up two sizes.

Paired with the high rise black skinnies that are now on sale, it makes for a super easy and classic spring look.  And if you haven’t checked out the Who What Wear X Target goods lately, you seriously have to take a peek.  Currently on my list?  These adorable green slides, these mules that come in 5 colors, this denim trench, and these lightweight bomber jackets.  To be honest, the list could keep going and going – the spring collection is so good.  Hope everyone’s week is off to a great start!

If there’s one accessory I take with me anywhere and everywhere, it’s definitely sunglasses.  Anyone who’s seen a few blog posts here can probably tell that I’m hands-down an aviator girl.  My Ray-Bans rarely leave my face, and I just think that an aviator is the best shape for my features.  Recently though, I heard about the Endless Eyewear program from Ditto.  It’s the latest in the fashion rental craze, and it’s really affordable.  For $19 a month, you can rent designer shades, keep them for as long as you want, and return them once you’ve already received your next pair.  It’s genius and a great way to try out new shades that you might not normally try.  If you hate them, return them.  If you love them, buy them.  The selection is amazing with brands like Prada, Karen Walker, Elizabeth and James, and of course, my favorite Ray-Ban.  For my first pair I decided to go with something other than an aviator (gasp!) because hey, why not?  I love this oversized pair from Karen Walker and found myself reaching for them more than I thought I would.  But it’s a new month now, and I’m moving onto the next.  The hardest part is just choosing which pair is next.  (Psst!  Use code MYSTYLEDIARIES at checkout to receive your first month FREE!)

The worst part about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (besides me annoying you about it, like, every single day) is that once you get your hands on your shiny new fall steals, it seems like an eternity until you’ll get to wear them.  So I figured what the hell, why not take them for an early spin.  (#liveyourlife)  I’ve posted this denim trench on Instagram precisely three times now because it’s my favorite sale find, and I’m trying to make sure you don’t miss out, girl.  The faux suede skirt was actually the first piece I had to have from the sale because it’s such a classic staple that I’ll wear year after year.  It’s a perfect goes-with-anything camel color, and it’s just about as soft as you might imagine.  The wrap-front blouse is light enough to wear now and later layered into the fall.  Want a similar bag and shoes?  Those are also on sale, but only for a couple more days.  Prices go up on Monday, August 3rd, so this weekend, better get your shop on.

Happy Monday, friends!  How was everyone’s weekend?  I’m currently in Palm Springs getting our house ready for some photos this morning, and after a full day of working my booty off around here yesterday, I think she’s finally ready for her close-up.  I’m really excited with how the decor turned out, and I can’t wait to show you guys.  Also, I can’t wait until we can enjoy this house when it isn’t 118 degrees out.  No joke, that summertime scorch was in full effect yesterday.

But, moving onto today.  Today I’m sharing another look from our stay at the Four Seasons Residence Club Aviara, and this little black maxi dress is so perfect for even the hottest days.  It’s lightweight, loose and airy, and bonus – it has pockets.  #Score  And it’s currently on MAJOR sale.  (Like, originally $338 marked down to $87.)

It’s part of Rent the Runway’s clearance sale where you can get previously rented dresses for up to 75% off.  (If you haven’t tried out their rental service, I’d totally recommend.  I’ve found some amazing party gems from RTR in the past.)  This BCBG maxi came in perfect condition and just in time for those Southern California end-of-summer heat waves.  Once the temps drop, just throw on a denim jacket and peep-toe booties, and you’re good to go.

The Rent the Runway clearance is full of amazing finds like this beyond beautiful trench, so I’m linking a few of my favorites below.  No time like the present to treat yo’self to a little something on sale.  Happy shopping!

You know those Monday mornings when you just can’t seem to get it together?  Full warning, I’m in slow-mo this morning and I’m not sure a gallon of coffee could help.  About a week ago I shared my favorite bomber of the season (which is currently back in stock) with you guys, and today I’m sharing the trend in a slightly different form.  This one is like a perfect mix of a bomber jacket and a trench coat, and when you size up and zip up, it doubles as an easy pre-fall dress.  So I’m calling this one the bomber dress, and I have no idea (nor do I care) if it was intended to be worn this way.  What I do know is that I love a good versatile piece, and this one is beyond.  For now, throw it on with denim cutoffs, a simple tee and booties for a laidback transitional look, and once the temperatures drop, wear it with skinnies and over-the-knee boots.  For right around $40, you really can’t go wrong with this bomber dress hybrid thing.  (You like that technical terminology?  Blame it on the Monday morning thing.)  Also notable, this handbag is currently on sale, and it’s a pretty sweet find.  (Plus it holds ALL of the things.)  Also, these heels are one of the most worn things I own.  So there’s that, and that’s all.  Here’s hoping your Monday moves along pretty swiftly, friends!
