A crisp, scalloped cotton skirt can really work wonders for your wardrobe full of "nothing to wear" during the summer.  For a casual take, throw on a comfy tee and sandals and call it a day, but if you're looking to pull yourself together, pair the warm weather staple with a tank and printed blazer.  Heeled sandals in a bold hue and sleek jewelry keep the look classic.  How would you wear this skirt?

There's no better time than summer (or the verge of it at least) to play with bold colors, and I love the combination of these hot pink skirt-like shorts with a classic red bag.  Keep the rest of the outfit neutral with a wear-with-everything ivory blouse and nude, barely-there heels.  Finish with mixed flashes of silver and rose gold for a flirty, ladylike look that will take you from day to night in a flash.  Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!

If you've been following along on Instagram over the past week, you may have noticed I've spent a chunk of time checking out the trends at T.J. Maxx.  (And perhaps a larger chunk of time simply checking out the handbags.  Note to self: must remember to focus on clothes sometimes...but the bags were SO good in the meantime.)  As part of the #maxxstylescout campaign (the Maxx-capades as I'm lovingly calling it), I'll be showing you four trends of the season using clothing and accessories from, yep, T.J. Maxx.

This week focuses on pastels and ladylike silhouettes and prints.  I spent a leisurely Saturday spending way too much time roaming through every department.  I headed to the fitting rooms three times on account of finding something I'd missed every time I came out.  I had chosen my outfit: a floaty floral blouse, tailored white pants and these tan and gunmetal shoes that I've actually had my eye on for a while now.  And then I saw this dress.  The sherbet striped, pleated maxi was something so far out of my comfort zone, but I immediately loved it.  It's by one of my favorite brands and is so well-made.  The under layer is fitted and structured, and the outer chiffon is so fun for spring.  It will be perfect for an upcoming wedding, and it's also been on display in my house for a few days now.  (Although the manfriend says it's time to put it away.)  That's the thing about T.J. Maxx - when you aren't expecting it, you'll find something so perfect and beautiful.  Or maybe just something to wear for the night.

And now, T.J. Maxx is letting you in on the fun.  By submitting pictures of your own Maxx-capades finds, you can win up to a $500 gift card!  Simply post your image on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook and tag #maxxstyle to enter.  Be sure to mention the designer and price of your TJ score!  (Check out additional details and the official rules here.)  Good luck, and happy shopping!

If the middle of the week has your nine to five uniform feeling a little drab, give it a kick in the mouth with a little sporty spice.  A basic colorblocked pencil dress gets an instant update with a striped cotton blazer.  (Black and white is a huge trend for spring, and this blazer is so on point.)  Add peep-toe, ankle strap heels and a chunky menswear-inspired watch (by, gasp, Karl Lagerfeld!), and finish the look with unisex sunnies, an oversized clutch and a little bit of bling.  The bonus?  Every piece here will be an absolute wardrobe asset all spring and summer long.  Pair the blazer with a peplum tank and black skinnies - love the front zipper detailing on the Hudson pair below.  Throw on a statement necklace and ring and a bold handbag, and you're ready for a day of meetings or a night on the town.

Neon Mini

Nothing makes a spring statement quite like an electric neon mini.  Tone the bold skirt down by pairing it with a fitted black sweater and neutral blazer.  Add ankle strap sandals or tights and booties if it's still a little too chilly in your area for bare legs.  Finish with a cute floral crossbody and standout gold jewelry.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

With a few key accessories, an otherwise "buttoned up" mod look transitions perfectly to your after-work plans.  Start with a well-tailored peplum pencil dress and a cropped tuxedo jacket for a color-blocked, office-friendly vibe.  Add a couple of unexpected touches with a sleek lucite heel and a contrasting lucite clutch.  Finish with black and gold accessories for an overall look that works just as well with your boss as with your best girlfriends.

On Valentine's Day or any other night of the year, sometimes nothing beats a dinner with the girls.  Have a little fun with eye-catching printed pants paired with a delicate beaded top.  A fitted blazer and classic black pumps pull the look together, while interesting druzy jewelry and a studded clutch add the final touches.  What are your plans this Valentine's Day?

A silk tie-waist shirt dress (preferably in basic black) is a seasonless and timeless piece that works just as well with heeled sandals in the summer as it does with tights, boots and a coat in the winter.  For those in-between times, pair the easy classic with statement spiked heels and an icy palette of silver and blush for your goes-anywhere, nine-to-five-and-beyond, go-to look.  Hope everyone is having a great week!

For a big night out, there's nothing better to me than heavy doses of black and gold.  A soft jersey dress with strategic ruching is figure-flattering and comfortable without looking sloppy, and a studded leather jacket will help up the glam factor.  Stack on statement gold jewelry (loving these beautiful and affordable pieces by Rose Pierre), and grab a low-key black clutch.  Finally, break up the monochromatic look with a standout heel in bold blue.  Who's ready for Friday night?

Spring has sprung!  Alright, alright...it's way too soon and actually not even close, but I'm thinking that a heavy dose of bold green could get anyone in a summer state of mind.  Pair this peekaboo mini dress with a black blazer and statement heels, and add a little interest with an animal print clutch.  Finish the look with a pair of cuffs and standout cocktail rings with hints of gold.  Now, about that tan of yours...
