Well Mother Nature, she is a fickle little wench. The temps this weekend were constantly up and down, necessitating shorts at times and cozy fireplace fires at others. It's days like these that I'm very happy that I stocked up on a few new lightweight blazers this "winter". Paired with skinny jeans and a fun leather tee, a lightweight blazer is all I need for these sort-of chilly days. I'm headed home to Louisiana tomorrow for a few days, and I'm pretty excited for some actual colder weather. (Just one problem: packing everything I've been dying to wear.) Hope everyone's Thanksgiving week is off to a great start!

A few years ago while shopping for a Halloween costume, I came across a reasonable pair of over-the-knee boots and scooped them up for my costume thinking I'd probably never wear them again. "Over-the-knee boots, so scandalous!" is pretty much what I was thinking. (Give me a break. I was new to L.A. and was never really into that shock factor when it came to my wardrobe.) A few weeks after that Halloween, I decided to try out the boots over a pair of skinny jeans and was immediately hooked. I couldn't believe how easy they were to throw on over jeans and leggings and how surprisingly non-scandalous they were when worn with the right sweater dresses. I wore them until the soles were gone and had to toss them out when their solelessness (totally a word) caused a serious slip-and-bust-my-butt moment on the way to class one rainy day.
Fast forward to Fall 2013, and over-the-knee boots are EVERYWHERE. Seriously. And I've been on the hunt now for months. Every pair that I've found are either annoyingly pricey or have some sort of hardware that just doesn't sit well with me. When VAULT invited me to choose a couple of things from their site this month, these boots were a no-brainer. They're simple and fit well, and the dip in the back means they won't get all bent out of shape every time you sit down for more than five minutes. The best part? The price. (Fifty bucks, people. Fifty bucks.) Although I could probably wear these about 500 different ways, I'm narrowing it down and showing three fool-proof outfits with over-the-knee boots this week.
For today's look, there's really nothing easier than throwing them over a pair of skinny jeans, but I love the contrast of pairing them with grey skinnies. And these grey skinnies just so happen to be a new favorite pair. I've had a thing for Black Orchid denim ever since the first pair I tried a few years ago. Their jeggings are the most comfortable you'll ever own, and I feel like the mid-rise fit is kind of made for my body. (I'm not 18 anymore, so the low-rise thing that a lot of brands do just doesn't work for me.) For premium denim, the price is also pretty hard to beat. (I could go on, but seriously, just try them.) I paired the bottom half with a yummy silk blouse and cozy-to-the-max sweater and finished things off with a bold handbag. Stay tuned this week for two more ways to wear these boots, and don't forget to check out the VAULT blog for the ramblings of me and a couple of other fabulous bloggers. Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

I suppose it's casual Tuesdays here on the blog. It's the start of a great week for me. I'm heading out to New York tomorrow for Lucky FABB (Fashion and Beauty Bloggers' Conference), and it's seriously like Christmas to me. I'm so excited to be back in New York and reunited with a few favorite fellow bloggers. But before that, there's loose ends to tie and oh-so-much packing to be done. It's the sort of start to the week that requires something comfy and cozy, like an easy jeans and tee combo. A leather trimmed jacket like this one (last seen here) adds a little bit of an "I care" aspect, and a favorite scarf is perfect for a chilly evening. I'm excited to share this season's #LuckyFABB adventure, so I hope you're following along on Instagram and Twitter. Hope everyone is having a great week!

This leather jacket was such a sweet find at T.J.Maxx recently, and I can't help but throw it on with just about everything. I love how it adds a little something interesting to easy boyfriend jeans and a laidback plaid. Finished with a pair of classic leather booties, this outfit is my ideal weekend wear and a comfortable fall uniform. Which pieces are currently on replay in your wardrobe? Happy Friday, everyone!
I've never been much of a blazer kind of girl, but this year I've completely changed my mind and am borderline obsessed. I picked up this jacket from H&M when it was still way too hot to bring it out, and I'm so glad that I can finally wear it. It works just as well with skinny jeans and a simple top as it does with a neutral mini dress and it definitely adds a bit of interest to an otherwise bland outfit. Sleek heels, a bold clutch, and a few jewels completed the look. Hope everyone is having a great week!

This week's theme from T.J.Maxx is mixed prints or mixed media, and I decided to go for both. Mixing prints is one of my favorite ways to personalize an outfit, and it's been a staple in the blogging world for a while now. Mixed media clothing is a huge trend for fall and one that I love playing with. It's a fun and sometimes unlikely combination of textures and fabrics, combining casual and glam or hard and soft, like the leather-sleeved jacket above. I picked up this jacket a few weeks ago and knew it would be perfect for today's style challenge. Now I just needed to build my look around it.
I headed to T.J.Maxx thinking that I definitely wanted to find a printed dress of some sort and go from there. My plans all changed though when I came across these jeans. They're a favorite brand, and I've actually had my eye on these for a while. They're a thick ponte material, so they have the styling and cut of skinny jeans and feel like your favorite leggings. They fit like a glove, and the second I put them on, I knew they were coming home with me. I tried on a slew of printed blouses and tops and finally narrowed it down to this navy and red print. I love pairing navy with black, and this blouse was just too soft to pass up. It's also a nice contrast paired with the casual jacket. For the final touch, I knew I wanted a dash of leopard, and in luxe calf-hair, you really can't go wrong. They're a designer that I love, and (bonus) they're seriously comfortable. Like, walk all day in New York comfortable. Leopard is one of those classic prints that can be treated as a neutral and worn with pretty much anything in your wardrobe.
On my way out, just for good measure, I scooped up a new moisturizer that I've been dying to try at a price that I couldn't pass up. The beauty department at my local T.J.Maxx could be a full Saturday's worth of exploring, and if you go back a week later, there's a whole new selection of brand name finds. Shopping with a specific trend or style challenge in mind makes things fun, and you end up coming home with things that you actually love instead of impulse buys. What fall trend will you challenge yourself with?

This weekend we had that perfectly in-between weather that hangs around for a couple of weeks between summer and fall. It's the ideal time to break out the sweater dresses and pair them with bare legs and ankle booties. (Admittedly, this one's a bit short, so I wear lace shorts under it.) While I'm ready for full-on sweater and scarf season, it's nice to soak up a bit of sunshine and the last few weeks of warm weather. Hope everyone had an amazing weekend!

After a heatwave of a weekend, we got another little breath of fall this week, and I couldn't wait to pull out these skinnies. Coated denim definitely dresses up your basic blues and gives a leather look that is so key for fall. For a low-key dinner, a simple white blouse, black cardigan, and sleek heels are all you need. Hope everyone is having a fabulous week!

This easy peplum top is one of those key summer basics that goes with so many pieces in my closet, so I figured I'd style it three ways over the next three days. For today's look, I paired the top with my go-to skinnies (seriously living in these LOFT jeans lately), a printed scarf, and sleek heels for a dressed-up day to night feel. It's pulled-together without trying too hard, and for a day of errands, comfortable flats are a great alternative. Oh, and you may notice a new accessory. Eric surprised me with a new handbag, completely out of the blue. It is now my first child, and I sleep with it under my pillow every night. Just kidding. But it's a thought. Stay tuned this week for two more ways to style that peplum top in your closet. If you don't have one already, below are a few options, and bonus, most of them are on sale.

Usually when I think about a black and white outfit, I think of a dressed-up, crisp look, but I'm loving this bohemian version above. With summer quickly coming to an end, I'm trying to squeeze in a few more days of denim cutoffs, but an oversized wool hat and easy booties make these pre-fall appropriate. An airy blouse adds a feminine touch, and this chain-embellished snakeskin bag makes a serious statement. Finish with easy silver accessories and mirrored sunnies. Hope everyone is having a great week!
